"Jose, this has better be important for you to use such an insecure
method of-"
Colonel, a copy of the Manchu project summary was stolen from our
local Matrix.

<pause 20 seconds>

"A *full* copy?"
Thank the Gods, no. The only full copy outside Aztlan is in my
headware. This was the edited version for transmission to the
Pyramid. Although Phase IV's existence is now known, no hard data on
its planned field test was in that file.

"This is still a massive problem, Major. How did the penetration
occur?"
We are still trying to find out. An unidentified decker extracted the
material. Although we successfully traced the location, he or she had
departed before Security arrived. The style and icon are not in the
database, though we will continue to query. Could it have been Lynch?
"Almost certainly on his behalf, though of course not Lynch himself:
he has no skill in the Matrix. He appears to have acquired support,
as the rumours of his more recent exploits suggest. What of the
assassination of Ohki?"

It certainly was not Lynch, sir, he was attempting to extract
information from a minor Yakuza. A dead end, Hermosa handled Riku and
Hermosa is dead.

"Nevertheless... Major, while we are still within planned limits of
compromise, there is anxiety. I am releasing additional units to your
disposal: a company of Leopard Guard from the Pyramid, and a
contracted team of independent shadowrunners. Make the best effort
possible to eliminate Lynch and the Lady, and any of their companions
you may conveniently reach, without diverting yourself from your core
task. The Leopards will be the best asset for this: they prefer
offensive operations to security duty."

What of InterPol? Their units are closing on Lynch, and-
"Nevertheless, Jose, pursue and kill Lynch. Force him underground at
the least: remember, this has been unsuccessfully tried before, and
while I do not wholly approve of it, he is more exposed now than he was
previously. You must at least reduce his freedom of manoevre."

Sir, my concern is that Aztlan may be linked to overt acts of
violence outside our jurisdiction.
"InterPol are safely bought, and Lone Star are very accomodating of
our need to solve these problems in our own manner. As for exposure,
we are already compromised: there is little to lose by an overt
pursuit now, unless you allow it to distract you from Manchu.
"Do not worry yourself with these matters, Major, they are not your
responsibility. I have also ensured that my earlier orders to you -
urging you to maintain a low profile to avoid unwanted attention -
have been placed on record."

Thank you, Colonel.
"Is there anything else I should be aware of?"
Nothing urgent, no. The rest will go by the usual method.
"Then, goodnight."
