When I was a kid in Pueblo, my grandfather would tell me stories.
One was how The Spider tricked the Great Spirit and took from him
a brave warrior that had earned the Great Spirit's favor. The Spider
made this brave into a conduit to the material world so that the
Spider could spread his web among mankind. When The Eagle told the
Great Spirit what was happening, the Great Spirit was angry and
bound the Spider to his plane. Unfortunately for the brave warrior
who was now tainted with Spider he could not be freed unless he found
another to take his place. Rather than have another suffer as he had,
the warrior threw himself off of a cliff and ended his life. The
Eagle was impressed with his sacrifice and forced the conduit into
a ring and took the warrior to reside with him on his plane. Stories
