>>>>>[And here's some more action just in from our very own Luciano's
Italian Club out near Puyallup. Seems like the underworld may be moving
again, this has classic Yakuza all over it... This piece was retrieved from
a home trideo cam that an innocent bystander appeared to be holding prior to
the events on the tape.

+++++Begin home trideo

A plain, black Ford Americar seems to be speeding up the street towards the
camera-person. The camera sways a bit as the holder scurries out of the way
before righting itself and following the car past the cameras position.

Engine noise can be made out clearly, it is obvious that the Americar is
still accelerating, even though it appears to be doing over 150kph already.
The camera-person zooms in on the car, trying to get a closeup of the
driver, but the camera cannot penetrate the tinting over the window.

At that moment a scream comes from somewhere off camera, and the camera
swings wildly to the right. At the end of the street is a small Italian
restaurant, Luciano's apparently. The car is still accelerating when it
crashes into the building and-

+++++End home trideo

Sorry all, that's where it cuts out. The camera person was caught in the
explosion even though he was a good fifty meters away. The blast tore out
the whole building, including the three floors above it and caused severe
damage to the buildings surrounding Luciano's. Preliminary estimates show
nearly forty deaths and a hundred or more injured, some critically. Lone
Star denied to comment at this time, but promised a full report later this
evening.

All I can say is that I hope whomever was responsible rots in whatever Hell
they believe in. Some of the people in those buildings were children,
nevermind the rest of the innocents. I'll be waiting to hear what Lone Star
has to say about this one!]<<<<<

>>>>>[A car crashing into a restaurant and blowing it up has "classic
Yakuza all over it"?!? That's so funny I can't laugh.

I don't know where you're from kid, but no respectable member of
organized crime--and I don't care _what_ family they belong to--would
perpetrate anything like that. Maybe some young punks wanting to stir
up a hornets nest between the families. While the families play the
blame game out, they can sit back and laugh at the mess they've created,
right up until they get found out and find themselves at the bottom of
the bay with their heads less-than-figuratively shoved up their asses.
"Real" organized crime has enough sense to not resort to terrorist
tactics, especially anywhere within 100 yards of where LoneStar will be
forced to give a damn, no matter how much they've been bought off. You
don't blow a restaurant to do a "hit" or even send a "message." Too
messy and imprecise. Maybe if a Don is having a private party at the
restaurant...maybe. Anybody hear that sort of whisper on the street?

If anything, I'd put my money on this being "retaliation" for the
killing of civies in Tarislar. Although, even that theory has holes.
Where's a vigilante group in Tarislar going to get that much explosives?
If anything, it ain't Easy's style, not "personal" enough. Dunno. Just
seems nuts from my P.O.V. Someone's asking to be _hammered_.]<<<<<

Cases like this, I always get jumpy. Let's just build a paper trail...

+++++begin video
Hart drops the file with a groan. "I see the pattern already."

"So enlighten me, Sergeant. How do we keep this from spilling over into
Tacoma?" The Captain retrieves the folder.

"Well, you want to be cynical, wait it out. The Nobilis Domini will get
themselves killed, in the process they'll kill a hundred or three Humans,
various Human groups will slaughter a bunch of Elves in revenge, then
everyone will lose interest for a while."

"And the bombing at Luciano's?"

"Could be the Domini, could be someone else, maybe Seoulpa."

Captain Moran looks quizzical. "I heard Yakuza."

"What's the Maf-Yak squabble at the moment?"

"There wasn't one that I heard. Not overt, anyway. Tensions, sure, but no
open warfare."

"Precisely. The big player in the region is Kimura Masatomi, and he's not a
man for street wars. Hell, _we'd_ have trouble proving he wasn't legit.
Construction, retail, business support, finance... he stays out of the
obvious markets. Others... well, I wouldn't want to be whoever pulled a
splatterjob like that. They just crapped in the pool while a lot of
important people were swimming." Hart taps the file. "Forty-some dead
and a block wrecked. Way too much noise. Even Puyallup Branch can't walk
away from _that_."

"Come on, Hart. It's not Company policy for different divisions to snipe at
each other."

"And in public, I won't." The detective replies. "But for Chrissakes, Pat,
here inside the station, are we going to face the truth? Or are we going
to smile and pretend that Puyallup are all good honest cops and we can
rely on them to do the right thing?"

Moran snorts. "Guess who linked the Luciano bombing to the Yakuza."

"How do you know when a Puyallup cop's lying? When their lips move."

The Captain sighs. "In other words, take anything from them with a
mountain of salt. Okay. Even a dumb Mick like me can work that out.
Thing is, what _can_ we do?"

Hart shrugs. "Lean on Puyallup to _do something_. Get some cops on the
street in Tarislar. That cuts the legs out from under the Nobilis jerks. I
don't think they've got much support, and I know a few people who might
be able to turn them over. With them out of the way, maybe some of the
heat comes off."

"And the bombings?"

"You got me there. And it still leaves the Bartolo-Descabiere war."

"The what?"

"Andy keeps up on the region. Redmond shifts too fast, but Puyallup you
can keep a handle on." Hart says, slightly apologetically. "And a lot of crap
flows out of there into Tacoma. Helps me out a lot."

"Right. So, we've got a Mob war too?"

"Have had for the last couple of months." Hart confirms. "Some of this
leaked out of it. Thing is, that's the why. And it's interesting. And I do feel
better when I keep people alive. But I get paid to save _Tacoma_, right?"

"You got it, Hart. I'll take your ideas under advisement." Moran pauses.
"You want some vacation?"

"To go play vigilante? No, thanks. Not my style."

"Hoped not. But... I do have a req. From Puyallup. For a experienced cop
from outside the area. They want to put forty, fifty guys on the streets
around Easyville for a month or two. See how it works out. I said I'd ask
you."

Hart shakes her head. "That's a lieutenant's job."

"Well, Sergeant Hart-Kryzdanovich, I guess that's why I'll have to promote
you if you take it on." Moran grins.

"Damn. Have a bright idea and then get called on it." She pauses. "Okay.
I'll do it."
+++++end video

Great. Eight to twelve weeks. And I've got enough men to put four or five
cars on the street. Tops.
