You see a luxurious, yet cozy office with a fire lit in the
fireplace. The desk looks like it is made out of real oak, and been
well treated over the years. The office is lined with bookshelves
that are all completely filled, with books overflowing to stacks on
the floor. There are two guest chairs, and one of them is filled
with a tall man with short black hair. His eyes, a piercing brown,
are set on the other man in the room. That man, who is sitting
behind the desk is not quite as tall and has short blonde hair. He
has equally sharp eyes that are blue not brown. Both men are wearing
nice suits, although the blond man clearly has the more expensive
one.

The guest asks the blond man, "Well, Herr Baron Ravenwood, why did
you call me here?"

The blonde man waves his hand in a dismissing gesture, "Do I always
have to have some ulterior motive? I just wanted the pleasantries of
your company. May I call you Michael?"

The guest responds crisply, "You may call me Death for that is what I
am. You didn't call me here for pleasantries, my lord, and we both
know it."

The man smiles calmly and asks, "Do you wish for some wine?" Death
shakes his head negatively. "Do you wish for some food?"

Death quietly states, "I'm not hungry, my lord."

Ravenwood shakes his head, "Please Death, if I must call you by your
running name, then have the curtesy to do the same for me."

Death smiles tightly and says, "As you say, my lord."

Nightmare sighs and says, "Very well. A couple of years ago, it came
to my attention that the concentration camps were no longer being
used as a reminder of what terrors mankind can accomplish given
sufficient motivation and levels of propaganda. The government set
up observation posts to make sure nothing sinister was started there
again. Within the duration of my prolonged absence, we have lost
contact with one of the observation teams from one of the camps.
Everyone else we have sent has either not been found or has found
nothing to hint that anything went wrong. I wish to hire your team."

Death quietly asks, "Why don't you use the MET2000 for this, my
lord?"

Nightmare responds quietly, "I'm not sure that the other observation
posts are reporting what they should be. The observation duty is not
a desirable job. Between the possible political implications of what
could be found, and the increased potential for magical activity, I
felt your team would be better suited to first investigate what
happened to the camp and then secretly check out the other sites as
well to see if they have been corrupted. Furthermore, I also wish
the camps outside of Germany's border be checked as well. I cannot
send MET2000 because their presence would make diplomatic waves if
they were discovered."

Death asks, "If I accept on behalf of my team, what is your role
within this, sir?"

Nightmare says, "Beforehand, I will provide you with all the
information on the camps that I know. I will probably provide you
with some money depending on contract negotiations. At that point
you are on your own. How you get around, how you solve the mystery,
and how you observe the observers is all up to you. If you send me
information, I will act on it as I see best fit. I wouldn't rely on
contacting me for directions, because my hand may be forced by other
events."

Death states, "So in addition to whatever happened to our problem
camp, you expect us to find corruption along the way and deal with it
however, we see fit."

Nightmare nods, "Yes."

>>>>>[ Two reasons. First, his team is competent. Second, I wanted
to see just how well connected they are for future reference.

I expect they will do the job so well, that we will have other things
to observe. I expect that will keep us busy enough that we won't
have time to worry about Death. And heaven forbid, if Death isn't up
to the task and dies, then we will have at least one less future
problem to worry about. ]<<<<<
