The world pops with a static hiss and a enhanced green scale view appears.
The view is blocked as something flashes back and forth in front of it.
"Testing. How's the view Lynch?"
"Just fine Blade. Whats your current position?"
"I'd say about four blocks south and 15 meters down from the targets position."
"Good. Lilith says that the matrix side of building security has been
neutralized. The latest data on the outside is on it's way to you from the
drone. We're going to send it along so that the place doesn't look like
it's being monitored."
"Good. Ok, I'm getting the maps on my display now. Place looks quite. Are
you sure that its the right building?"

The view, which you now recognize as an alleyway, begins to shift, the
person carrying the camera has started to move.

"It's what we've got right now." Lynch's voice takes on a more proffesional
tone. "Do you remember the objectives?"
"Yeah. Course I do."
"What are they?"
Blades own voice shifts into one of military response "Enter the target.
Examine the target for veracity of information. Exit. Avoid notice by
hostiles at all costs. Any notice by the hostiles means that the mission
should be scrubbed. Target is unaware of any attention in it's direction by
unit."
"Right. Did you put that camera where I told you to?"
Blades voice returns to a more jovial tone "Your original, or the one
that'll actually show whats happening?"
"The second, smart ass. ETA?"
"About 3 minutes to the base of the building, longer if I run across a
pedestrian."
"Ok, cutting non essential transmissions."
"Ack."

The view continues to glide down the alley. Almost nothing can be heard
except for the normal sounds of the city streets nearby. As the picture
approaches a wider street, the view pauses. Carefully checking both ways,
you can see that the street is mostly deserted. On the other side, the
alley continues. The screen flashes, and when it settles again, and the
view is now from the other side of the road.

Blades whispered voice comes across "I am at the base of the target. Still
no hostiles in sight. Are you sure this is the right place?"

"If I wasn't sure, I wouldn't have sent you."

The view moves torwards an ancient fire escape along the side of the
building, this time, at a much slower pace than before.

"Tell me again, Lynch. Why am I the only one here?"
Lilith's voice cuts in "Because if we sent in Lynch, he'd walk in, shoot
everybody, and forget the important stuff. We're saving that for later."
"Haha Lilith. But she's mostly right Blade. Now, just make it in quietly,
and the job is half over."

You see a box like contraption get held in Blades arms, it's hard to see,
but has several spools and some cord on it. It's most likely a grapple gun.
Blade points it up and fires, a slight "tink" can be heard as it hits the
roof. Blade pulls on the cord until it snags, and then tests it with his
weight.

"Not the best, but I guess it'll have to do." With that, Blade begins to
climb the rope up to the roof. Most of the shot is off a rather
unremarkable wall until Blade slips himself over the edge of the roof and on
top of it.

The roof is a mess. There's junk everywhere. Blade begins to pick his way
carefully through it, heading for one of the old skylight windows. Blade
looks at it, and would pick the lock, except that the window has a hole in
it big enough for CRUSH to fit through.

"Looks like I caught one break. Or this is a setup. Or this is the wrong
place, and I'm going to find a lot of squatters. Heading inside."

Blade carefully slips through the window and leaps to the floor, making no
more noise than that of a cloth would have. The room he is in is empty
except for junk piled in the corners. The place looks like it's been
abandoned for a long time. A single door leads to a hallway.

Lynch speaks "The room you want is right below where you are now. Take it
easy down the stairs, slip in, check the stuff, and get out. It's a cake walk."

Blade says nothing as he glides out the door and down the hall. It takes
him a while to maneuver the stairs, but he manages to with only one, small,
squeek from the old structure. Blade continues on, and halfway torwards his
intended target, the screen flickers briefly.

"Hold up Blade."
"What?"
"Did you catch that?"
"Catch what?"
"That flicker. Did you notice anything unusual?"
"Nope. What do you see that I don't?"
"Nothing, yet. Don't move."
"I'm not."

The view cycles through a several different colors. It suddenly stops as a
bright wall of lines appears.

"Shit. Blade, look behind you."

The view turns, and another wall of lines can be seen.

"Ok, Blade. I'm piping this to your display."

The view points torwards the floor, and a small flat screen can be partially
scene.

"Frag. Wait. Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"Drek. This _is_ a setup. I just heard something, barely, from one of the
doors. This is blown, I'm out of here."
"How?" comes Lynch's incredulous voice

The view is now pointing directly down the hall. At the end is a single,
boarded up old window.

"Well, lets just say that I hope that things not bricked up. And if it is,
that I'm tougher. I don't have much time Lynch, if you've got a better
idea, tell me now."

The creak of a door opening can be heard as the shot whips around. Someone
is walking out of a room behind Blade

"GO!"

The view jumps forward torwards the window, and the breaking of old boards
can be heard, and then the thump of flesh against immovable object. Now the
view is facing the opposite way, and someone is jumping at it. The last
thing seen is the point of a knife sliding into the camera lens. Then there
is nothing but sound. A grunt of pain and the sound of a fight. Gun shots
and the smack of hits against flesh. Then the sound cuts out too.

"Blade?" Lynch's voice "Blade? If you're there respond." The only
response is the crack and hiss of a dead radio.

+++++call connected

"Hello?" you recognize the voice as Lilith's
"Lilith? It's Blade."

+++++initializing video
The video feed of the call kicks in. On one side is Lilith, on the other is
Blade.

Blade looks like he's been picked up and beaten against the ground for a
while, set down, then pummeled some more. There is a slash across his left
eye, which is a swollen purple mess covered in dry blood and gore. Grime
and blood covers most of Blades face, hair, and what you can see of his
shirt, which is torn in more places and barely holding together. You can
see Blades right arm, or at least, whats left of it. Where the elbow should
be, there is instead just a few loose wires, and nothing below that.

Lilith looks shocked. "Where are you? Nevermind. I just got a lock on the
telecom's position. I'm sending it to Lynch. He's been with Tangent all
night trying to find you. They should be there shortly. What happened?"

Blade answers her in a voice that sounds remarkably like gravel. "Their
mana thrower had put up some kind of barrier around the hall. It blocked
the window. The first guy who came at me made a great shield, and I was
able to tag the mage type guy when he tried to throw another spell." Blade
smiles "I'm pretty sure I hurt him. Unfortunately, the guy I was holding
had a cyber shot gun in his arm, but only managed to get my arm and part of
my side before I broke his neck. Well, once the mage fell, I was able to
jump out the window, and fall to the street. I do mean fall. I think I
broke a rib or two. God bless bone lacing. Well, I had set off all those
alarms, and I could hear sirens, so I just started sneaking away. I ended
up being the target of a couple other random acts of violence, but got rid
of them. 'Course, now I'm out of ammo, don't know where I am, and am
holding on to my blood about as well as a sieve would." Blade looks right
into the camera. "Lilith, I want to go home."

With that, Blades eye rolls back into his head and he slumps forward,
hitting his chin against the console and slumping to the ground, out of view.

+++++pause: 60 seconds
+++++telecom time out: Thank you for using...

"Lynch? Do you have him yet?"
"Tangent and I are closing on his position. We should have him in about 30
seconds. Is the hospital ready?"
"Yep, and I think he's going to need it."]<<<<<
