FEDERAL TASK FORCES FREES KIDNAPPED GIRLS

Elements of the FBI's elite Achilles anti-terrorism unit struck into the
Barrens last night, liberating the five survivors of January's Renton
bus hijack. Three of the terrorists responsible were apprehended for
questioning, three others being killed during the rescue. Two others
remain unaccounted for.

The five young women - JoBeth Lazar (15), Helen Bairiad (19), Sally
Runs-Lightly (20), Lucy Rett (18) and Jerri Kigne (24) - now reunited
with their families, who had not expected to see them alive again. They
had been kidnapped from the vehicle before the massacre of the other
passengers, in which twenty-six people lost their lives.

Hospital sources refused to comment on claims that the girls had been
repeatedly abused, but stated that they were all expected to make
recover fully from their injuries. An allegation that they had been
forced to work as prostitutes by their abductors remains unconfirmed.


Despite its successes in protecting the Metroplex (preventing the bus
massacre its agents were called to, rescuing so far six of the nine
hostages taken in that catastrophe, hunting down the terrorist Jaxon
Goldsmith, and a host of untrumpeted work in co-operation with Lone
Star) the Achilles force is to be shut down and dispersed within weeks:
a victim of the Washington politicians, who care more for campaign
contributions than the welfare of Seattle's citizens.

Bought off by corporate interests, the District of Columbia sacrificed
this Metroplex to terrorist violence, protecting megacorp profit by
expending Seattle's lives.

But, despite betrayal from above, after a campaign against crime that
cost the lives of nearly a score of their agents, the FBI officers of
Achilles are doing their duty to the last.
