with all the overwhelming traffic that nodes been getting, someone managed
to sneak a wicked little virus into MegaWatch. It's been handled and a
full back up has been restored. As a word of warning, we've upgraded not
only our virus protection but added a bit of bleeding edge BlackIC to our
defenses, so try not to mess with Shadowland, okay?
But for those of you that weren't paying attention, here's the gist of what
happened.
At first, we got word that there was something big going down. Corporate
Court representatives were pulled right out meetings to catch a ride up to
Zurich-Orbital. ZO, with a couple of notable burst transmissions that were
the exception, completely severed ties with groundside for the day.
NOTHING got in or out.
Which led us to believe something nasty was about to happen, especially
when some folks picked up increased activity among Fuchi and Renraku
military and security units. I'm sorry for anyone that had to run one of
their facilities this weekend, they were on ultra-red alert. Heard of a
few runners that got geeked by Fuchi or Renraku *military* units.
Which led to serious speculation about the possibility of an Omega Order
being handed down.
As you all know, it didn't happen.
Seems that Fuchi brought a case against Renraku, apparently alleging
massive industrial espionage or something. And Fuchi claimed it was Miles
Lanier (their former security chief) who was feeding Renraku the
information that was giving them the edge the two years.
Well, Fuchi won, sort of. Miles Lanier had to sell his four million shares
of Renraku to ZO at a cut rate (which netted him millions of nuyen and
caused Renraku common stock to drop 63 points) and was turned over and
"arrested" by Fuchi. There's other things going on, damages being paid and
what not, but that's the big news.
My gut tells me this isn't the end of this little saga. And for those few
money-grubbing slots that actually read all of this, it should at least
mean a lot more shadowruns if you don't mind working for either Renraku or
Fuchi and hitting the other corp.
If you want the full transcripts, just head over to the MegaWatch SIG and
check the logs for June 5 through 7, it should have it all.
Thanks to the Marketeer for keeping everyone straight and for maintaining
his own back-up of the "crisis."]<<<<<
