There is a loud knock on the door as everyone (but Midnight) enters
the master bedroom. Geiger and Midnight both start casting spells.
Midnight finishes his and transforms his dirty urban camouflage outfit
for a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt. Geiger finishes casting a few
moments later and the room has a sparsely set of furniture. Midnight
tosses him the headset and then Geiger hides in a closet. The pounding
on the door continues. Midnight looks down at his boots and smirks.
He casts a quick spell and he is wearing untied sneakers instead of
boots.

He opens the door slowly and peers out a crack. He says, "Officer, it
is rather late to be making a house call. How may I help you?"

There is a laugh and he says, "Can the act, Midnight."

"Who?? I don't understand."

"Listen, can the drek 'Harker.' I know your rep. I got a problem."

"Harker -- Midnight.... look, I _really_ don't know what you are
talking about.... Mister???"

"The name is Jonathan Redford. As you can tell, I work for Lone Star.
I'm here on unofficial business. My sister has a daughter of hers
missing for the past two weeks. I have a suspicion of what is going
on, but it isn't enough to go on, and it would cost me my badge if I
was wrong. I was looking for you, 'James Walker' to help me out. You
help me, I pay you, plus I forget that you were ever here."

He is greeted by confused silence. "I really wish I could help you,
but I don't think --"

"Just scan the note in the datapad and use a phone to call that
number."

Midnight sighs and nods. He scans the note. He says, "I don't claim
to understand. I haven't picked up a phone yet, if you could lend me
yours?"

The cop hands Midnight the phone and Midnight dials a number.
Midnight simply says, "James here." He listens for a while and hangs
up. He says, "I don't believe this. I think --" The cop cuts off as
he hands Midnight something. Midnight quickly reads it.

"Cute. I guess I will look into it during the next few days, while I
look for some real work. Keeping a house up is expensive. I'll keep
the data to aid me in this search."

"How much, James?"

"Expenses until I find her, and then we will chat about how hard the
job was."

"Midnight -- "

"I wish you would stop calling me that. I don't know anyone by that
name, and I don't know anyone stupid enough to take a nickname like
that. Goodnight officer."

The officer simply says, "I'll check in on you in two nights to see
how it is going."

I should really learn to ignore certain things. Then again, I
wouldn't get paid nearly as much if I did that. Sorry for yet another
interruption. ]<<<<<
