>>>>>[Thanks for being understanding on the last minute scrub of the
sim-run.... Anybody so much as throws a stone over the fence and CorpSec
has a tendency to want to clam up like an oyster. Now go and have some
runners pull a job on a building a good hard stones throw away and I am
amazed they don't strip-search us on the way into and out of work--not
that one @$$#*!& hasn't been itching to try. Would you believe that
somebody wanted Jenn to backup and blank her headwear at the end of the
day? They said it was in case she was ever "taken." Goddamnit, I saw the
look in his eye, and that wasn't the reason why. Just 'cause she used to
run with an "antisocial element"--hell, they probably combined were some
of the hottest young minds on the west coast, and the most dangerous thing
they ever did was make the freeway signs broadcast poetry instead of the
traffic report--doesn't matter how good you are, how smart you are, to
some of these guys, you have a record, your rabble plain and simple.
Bastards. At least the old man put a stop to the nightly brainwipe.

Jenn was acting strange the other night, but she didn't want to talk about
it. I think she took a look at the trid-footage that razorgirl Easy put
on the open board. I figure they set her down when she joined up and gave
her that, "Being part of our team can be a dangerous business" drill they
shove on all the suits so when the shit hits the turbine, they know to
duck and cover behind the nearest CorpSec, maybe even show them some nasty
pictures of what happens when you are stupid. But God, she's never seen
anything real, like that. I mean, hell, I got the shakes bad that first
time when I got back to the tarmac and realized that I never did see the
other guy punch out when the AAM I sent up his tail turned his fighter
into so much steel confetti. I trained for that, I know what I am in for,
and most of the time it comes down only one of you being able to come
home. Jenn, for all her brains, is still as naive as a kid. The same day
someone throws her once being a "ganger" in her face, she gets to come
home and watch somebody blow the brains out of some bangers for no other
reason than the bitch is fucking impatient. What the hell am I going to
do?

Rhetorical goddamn question.

Back to business: I'm finalizing a reschedule right now. I don't think I
really have to ask you if you have clearance, but you two should probably
have your IDs in you back pockets on the way in and leave anything
"suspicious" in the car or they may want to run you over with a fine
toothed comb coming and going. Not that they won't anyway. Just give me
a few days.]<<<<<

many moons ago, so we understand completely.

As for the trideo... I know what you mean.

What can you do? The best I can suggest is to advise Jenny that, when
someone points a gun at you and asks questions, answer quickly and
politely. Some people are psychotic enough that they really do consider
.45-calibre lobotomies appropriate penalty for hesitation or rudeness,
especially _pour encourager les autres_.

I've met Easy, and she really has no comprehension that other people
exist except as moving, talking furniture. The idea that you or I might
have the same thoughts, dreams, whatever as her... she can't get it. Or
maybe she doesn't really care if she lives or dies, so why should anyone
else matter? In any case, if you're inconvenient enough, she'll kill
you. If not, you're safe. Refreshingly simple, at least.

I don't know what could have made her that way, she certainly wasn't
born thus. Nor do I care to find out.

Should we turn her in? Kill her? Leave her alone? I don't know, yet.
Should we play God and execute her, or leave her roaming the world?

More rhetorical questions, I guess.

Looking forward to the flying, anyway. Clearance? <laughter> Good
enough, and leave it at that, though doubtless your weenies will have
confidentiality agreements ready for us to sign as well.

As for "suspicious", well, depending on definition we'd need major
surgery to leave everything "suspicious" in the car... :) And try
telling me you're not as bad. We hadn't planned on bringing anything too
unusual beyond ourselves and a sidearm each.]<<<<<
