>>>>>[The plot thickens. How, yes how indeed, to control the masses, to
coopt
them and make them dependent? Well, it looks like Hayashi has an answer.
Aren't "pharmaceuticals" wonderful? In fairness, they've also been on the
cutting edge of biotech, out there improving people's lives and extending their
lifespan, though that _could_ just be so that they can consume for longer and
longer stretches of time. "...caught a lite sneeze/dreamed a little dream/made
my own pretty hate machine..." But then again, noone should believe everything
they hear. =) And I digress...

"...Turning to the international business scene, there has been a shocking new
development in the tragic slaying of Mitsuhama employee Toriichi Takeda in
Seattle. Investigation of the victim's personal effects has uncovered
evidence of massive trafficking of illegal substances on the part of Hayashi
Incorporated, one of the leading biotech research firms. To furnish further
details, here is Michael Novacek, reporting live from the Seattle area."

The shot switches from Chelsea Wong's immaculately concerned expression to a
windblown street corner overlooking the Seattle waterfront. Standing in
front of the camera is an ecstatic-looking Michael Novacek, microphone clutched
in a white-knuckled hand like a mythical sword as his stylish trenchcoat and
hairdo are ruffled by the wind. "Good afternoon, Chelsea," he says, his
voice crystal clear despite the background noise. "The scene around here is one
of administrative red tape and tight security as Interpol has _totally_
corridoned off the victim's house. This blockade has made it _extremely_
difficult to find out what is going on inside, especially considering the
guards with automatic weapons stationed around the site! However, our
_dilligent_ inquiries have finally uncovered the reason for all the security.
It _so_happens_ that Mr. Takeda was in the process of investigating a massive
case of corruption in the rival Hayashi corporation. It seems he had collected
a large body of evidence linking Hayashi to the production of several different
kinds of addictive drugs, sold to the underworld or possibly even right on the
street!"

"That's incredible, Michael," Chelsea's voice says with exactly the appropriate
level of surprise. "Has this evidence been confirmed as of now?" "We
don't
have confirmation _yet_, but our correspondents are busily researching the
question," Michael declares confidently. "Should this evidence prove true, it
would be a _major_ scandal for one of the most highly-regarded biotech firms in
the business. But that's not the half of it!" he shouts over the wind, his eyes
lighting up with fervor. "According to Interpol estimates, it seems that
someone was trying to _destroy_ the evidence when Mr. Takeda came home and
surprised them! The felons apparently attacked him with a knife, inflicting
vicious puncture wounds all over his body before fleeing the scene after the
PANICBUTTON was pushed. It is not currently known if the perpetrators were
Hayashi personell, but they are assumed to be at large and are being considered
armed and dangerous. When asked about this new revelation, Mitsuhama
administration expressed shock and grief that any corporation would help foster
the corruption infesting our society and then resort to murder to cover their
tracks. It seems that Mr. Takeda has become something of a martyr for the
cause of corporate accountability to the public! Hayashi refused to answer all
questions posed by the media, saying that a public statement would be released
by the end of the week. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Hayashi's
side of the story is. For Turner Networks, this is Michael Novacek, reporting,"
he concludes with a flourish.

The shot flashes back to Chelsea, her expression somber. "Mitsuhama has set up
a trust fund for Mr. Takeda's next of kin and is offering to pay for the
funeral expenses. News of this development have apparently leaked to the
international securities markets, as Hayashi's stock has already slid another
six points off its value of two days ago."

Of course, it's a tad ironic that I've directly benefitted from these people's
technology, but then again, I've benefitted from just about _everybody's_
technology. An interesting conundrum, isn't it... ]<<<<<
