>>>>>[ Hrmmm... here's the footage you requested. I must say, you're
growing
into quite a fine young woman.

+++++begin: Survillance Video-Cap 1

A clear video image looks over a small cafe. Rich, dark wood accents make
the atmosphere one of intimacy and companionship. There are eight small,
round tables in the center of the room, with another eight situated around
the edge near the walls. A row of booths occupy the back corner, while the
kitchen occupies the space near the front door. Two young women, teenagers
from their appearance and dress, work behind the counter, efficiently taking
orders and pouring complicated coffee-type drinks for their customers. A
man, tall and thin, with a dirty blond crew-cut, wearing a battered black
leather trenchcoat is chatting with the attractive girl behind the counter
as she takes his order. Most of the tables are occupied, several with
businessmen reading newspapers or typing up an end of the day report, others
with groups of twenty-somethings, out for a night on the town. The rear
booths are all but empty, the only person there is a tall, lean elf with a
look of weariness about him.

As the camera pans past him, there is a disinterested look towards the door
which quickly changes into shock and confusion. Several seconds pass as the
man fights to control his emotions, the camera pans past and the object of
the confusion comes into focus. A young woman, small of stature, with long
auburn hair stands just inside the door, glancing at the faces inside, and
then the reason for the shocked look becomes apparent, it seems as though
the young woman is pregnant...

>>>>>[Aurora glances around the room, nodding at the blond man standing at
the counter as she moves past him. She heads deeper into the café, and her
eyes come to rest on the elf in the back booth. From his expression, she can
tell he's been caught off guard, his features mirroring her own inner
turmoil. The urge to run, get out of this place, as strong as ever, she
instead presses on.

She walks up to the rearmost booth, where Void sits with his back to the
wall. He doesn't say anything, just looks her up and down once. She sits
across from him, glances down at her napkin for a few moments and gathers
her thoughts.

"Void," she begins, hesitantly. "I.I wanted . to tell you something, to
explain why I disappeared." She looks up at him, into his eyes-

"I...think I can guess now," he replies. His green eyes are hooded, but she
can still see the shock hidden behind them. She knows him that well, at
least. "When did you find out?"

"I ... I found out the night I left. I wan't sure what to do, or what to
say. I didn't know how you'd react. This wasn't something I planned for, not
at this stage in my life..." She pauses momentarily. "I was in a daze for
several days after that. I ended up calling some of my old friends, a couple
of guys who'd gotten me off of the streets when I was young and stupid. They
took me in without question, let me have my space while I thought things
through. They're good like that..." She trails off for a moment as one of
the young waitresses glides past.

"When I was ready, we talked. We talked for hours, for days it seemed like.
In the end, I realised the mistake I had made. I meditated for a long time
on what I want in life, and that's why I've come back to you."

She lifts her head slowly, to look at Void, as she says those last words. A
single tear glistens at the edge of her right eye.

"I'll understand if you send me away. I just had to tell you, you know? This
isn't something a simple postcard would've been able to cover..."

Void looks down at the table. His face is unreadable, but the way he rubs
and twists his hands together betrays his nervousness. "What do you want to
do?" he asks quietly.

Aurora looks at the top of his head for a moment, considering.

"For starters, I'm reasonably sure it's yours, but if you'd like the proof,
I just need a sample of your DNA," she sighs. "I don't mean to trap you with
this. I *thought* I was being careful and was protected from this. It was as
much a surprise to me as it appears to be to you."

"I guess." she pauses as the waitress glides by again, "I guess, I just
wanted to know what you think about this. I don't mean to ask you to marry
me.that never works out. I'm not gonna haul you into court over some sort of
child-custody 'let's take the bastard for all he's worth' kind of lawsuit,
either. I'm set up, I have friends to help me cope. I just need to know.up
front.where you fit into the picture, how you *want* to fit into the
picture."

She stops, and waits for him to look at her.

Ever so slowly, Void's eyes creep up to meet hers. "So you're going to keep
him? Her? Uh...you know..."

"What?" Aurora looks confused for the briefest of moments. "But of course
I'm going to keep it!" She stops her rising voice suddenly, aware of her
surroundings.

"What I mean is, I'm nearly three months along now, and I've spent a good
portion of these past months reflecting on where my life was...is going. The
life we lead, it's dangerous. It's not the kind of thing I had envisioned
myself doing forever, and this is as good a reason as any to stop, to settle
down..." She half laughs to herself. "Almost like those sappy trids, aren't
I? 'White picket fence, 2.3 dogs' and all that."

She shrugs.

"Look, you don't have to decide anything right now. I'm not leaving Seattle
anytime soon, and there's still time for us to talk about this. I can tell
you need time yourself, this was a bombshell.....I'm sorry to have dropped
this on you with so little warning...."

Aurora goes to stand, reaching for her leather coat, then hesitates as Void
reaches out and lays his hand upon hers. "Wait."

He stays there for long seconds, just looking at her, before leaning back
once more. His hand slides away from her. "I know...yeah, I'll need to think
about this, but..."

Slowly, a hesitant smile creeps across his face. "My name's Bobby," he says.

Aurora sits back down with a slight grin on her face. She glances around the
cafe, her eyes coming to rest on the tall and thin blond man who had been
chatting up the girl behind the counter. Their eyes meet and he smiles
slightly ever so slightly. Then he turns to the girl at the counter and
slips a few nuyen across before picking up his hot Chai tea and walking out
into the cold Seattle evening.

Aurora looks back to Void....Bobby...and smiles once more. Maybe this
wouldn't be as bad as she thought.

"Shall I give you my number so you can call me later?" she asks warmly.

Void's eyes narrow slightly as the blond man leaves, but his smile returns
when his eyes settle on Aurora again. "Please. I'd...like to see you again."

Aurora pulls her pocket secretary out and presses a couple of buttons. There
is a small hum and then a bit of paper ejects from the printer port. She
hands it to him, a simple number and an address are printed upon it.

"I have a ride waiting outside," she gestured towards the door. "I'll
understand if you don't call, but I would like to see you again."

Aurora stands, looks at him for a moment, and then walks back through the
café and out the door. As the door closes, a dark grey Saab Dynamit can be
seen pulling away silently into the night.

Void watches her go, then jumps slightly as the door slams shut. Lowering
his head, he studies the slip of paper with Aurora's name and address for a
moment, before tucking it inside his jacket. A distant look comes into his
eyes and he settles into a motionless silence, the thoughts streaming
through his head unknowable - but troublesome.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Well, that's it. It's over, and I'm back in Seattle. And I'm myself
again, I guess.
I found out who wanted me dead and dealt with them. We...reached an
agreement, I guess. It's a long story, though, and one I'd rather not
share. Perhaps someday.
I want to thank you guys again for all you did for me through all that
went down. If you need anything, let me know by all means.
So now where? Now what? I don't know. I'll be laying low for a while.
My Galen Chang identity is compromised, so I guess I have to build a new
one. As for Ironthorne...well, I can ditch the cybereye covers,
reimplant my long hair. But I guess that persona's compromised as well.
Say hello to Lianne Carrol, bounty hunter, formerly of Denver.
Anyway, keep in touch. I'll be around, though I'm going to lay low for
a bit longer, settle into my new doss and all that. Jazz, maybe you and
I can meet up for drinks and catch up on drek. And lord, it feels good
to sign myself...]<<<<<
