>>>>>[Okay, Squatter is dead. Here's how it happened.

The Rat told me all of this first paragraph later. Since 1700 he and
Squatter had been rigging a matrix extension cord under that overbridge
across the interstate just by the Sun Mall. Apparently Squatter wanted to
put some more distance between him and his jackpoint, good old paranoid
Squatter. Around 1930, he had finished attaching a stretch of cord by
industrial staples and was coming up to have a rest before putting in the
next signal booster, when the Rat warned him that he was about to be
attacked by five men with SMG's. The Rat manifested and cooked off all
their ammo while Squatter jumped off the bridge and swung down into the
support framework on the end of his extension cord (I knew that drek was
strong, but Squatter must have been very malnourished to be that light).
Anyway, Squatter's staples were popping out of the bridge one at a time as
he swung down, and that was controlling the rate of his descent a little,
so he wound up safe in the framework. Meanwhile the Rat had flamed down two
of the attackers, and two had run off, then the last came at the Rat with a
weapon focus knife, so the Rat played sheperds (i.e. he got the flock out
of there).

I was working out in Kyle's dojo when the Rat turned up shrieking about
Squatter being in trouble, so I flew out under the power of a levitation
spell. The Rat followed me, then took the lead and guided me to where
squatter had last been seen. The cord was stil swinging gently in the wind,
but there was no sign of Squatter nor of this focus-wielding guy. We took a
look around and I saw Squatter and this other guy engaged in hand to hand
combat, and flew up to give him a hand. Oh, BTW, they were fighting
standing toe to toe on the line between the 2nd and 3rd lanes in from the
side, and the traffic was bothering both of them more than just a little, I
would estimate.

Some astral support would have been nice, because just then I picked up
their astral component on magic radar, and the Rat took off squealing. I
went up to astral perception and took a look around. The guy coming at me
looked like your typical cheesy gutterpunk shark shaman, but he was pretty
fast and he knew how to use the trident focus he was carrying (no drek, a
trident). As a result it took me almost ten seconds to take him down.

Meanwhile Squatter was in trouble. Just as I came down from perception to
physical only, he was receiving a slashing wound in the gut. The other guy
looked all triumphant, but Squatter had caught his hand, locked it in
place, then he used the other hand under the guy's armpit to pull him in
close and then throw him into the path of an oncoming car. Splat! (a semi
plus trailers would have been more appropriate in a cheesy movie sort of
way, but he had to work with what was coming at the time. At least it
wasn't a scooter or one of those ridiculous bubble cars).

I got Squatter out of harm's way with a second lev. spell, but he was cut
up bad. In addition to the gut wound he had taken a couple of slashes
across the face and miscellaneous bruising. I tried healing magic, but
Squatter has so much headware, that deck of his... anyway, no dice there.
He was fading fast, and I barely got him to a clinic in time for him to
die. They tried resus and all that, but he'd lost too much blood on the
way, and he was pretty damn unhealthy from all that lurking in dumpsters
and eating whatever he could find. I wish we could have lured him into more
healthy accomodations while he was working with us in the SIR thing.

Anyway, has anyone seen the Rat? I don't know how it's taking all this. It
seemed to have some wierd connection with Squatter.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Who else is in on this? I guess I am, as much from want of anything
better to do with my time right now as from righteous indignation at the
snuffing out of so bright a candle... where was I? Yeah, are the rest of
the shifters in for this? Who else should I be sending info to?

Speaking of which, info follows:

(note that this is made of a mixture of rumour and stuff that had to be
beaten out of the informants, added to some info I got through some
channels into assorted corps that were set up during my brief career with
SIR, and have not yet been shut down)

The guy with the knife, nee Damien Trump, aka Scythe, aka Don Crump.
Deceased due to impact with car as of not long ago. He was a physad and
amateur decker, able to do some basic stuff, but he had to use a 'trode
net. When I went round to his apartment today, the door was broken down and
the place had been stripped of everything valuable.

The two the Rat flamed down were SINless, known collectively as the Simpson
Twins, aka Mike and Danny Simpson. Look like ganger punks and runner
wannabes.

According to rumour and innuendo, these three merry fellows were part of a
group that formed up when Scythe's last team split up due to internal
conflict over a woman, and there are or were three others. The remaining
members are or were:

Raymond Wulf, aka Ray Stein, aka Wolf, aka Wulf, aka Stingray. Rumoured to
be cleverer than he looks and acts, but it would be hard not to be,
according to what I hear. Many names, many hangouts too, so I've got no
idea where one would go to find him.

Sanders, no known pseudonyms. Shark shaman, or at least dresses like one.
No fixed address, but rumour has it he lives on a boat somewhere out on the
Sound. This, I presume, would be your guy with the Trident.

Darco (and no, I didn't mis-spell Draco), no other names I can find. Best
prospect I can find for tracking though, as he's known to have a chip habit
to feed and some fairly specific tastes. Rumour has it that he get's his
fix at Epsilon, >>address<<, a club that was something of a centre for use
and sale of "ecstasy" (sp? they liked to spell things funnny back when this
was in style, I've only vaguely heard of the stuff, I think it's an
energiser of some sort) during the wave of retro substance abuse that swept
through Seattle in the late 40's/early 50's. The place has gone way down in
popularity since then.

That's it, I guess. When you going hunting, do you want a hand?]<<<<<

I'll do some surveillance of each of them first, then I might want your

>>>>>[I just had an article of news passed to me by a 'concerned friend'
of its subject.

"I read this, and it feels... odd. Too neat, too slick. I don't know who
the 'friends' were - nobody I knew - but Donny seemed fine to me.
Worried about something, but business, not personal. And he and Joan
were happy, I was over for dinner last week. This smells bad.
Something's wrong. Can you try and find out what?"

SUICIDE IN SNOHOMISH
Donald E. Trenton, 47, was found hanging in the back garden of his
Snohomish home by a concerned neigbour late last night. Trenton,
employed by the Centre for Disease Control, was pronounced dead at the
scene. Trenton was said by friends to have been experiencing marital and
personal difficulties: his wife, vacationing outside the Metroplex with
the couple's two children, could not be reached for comment. Lone Star
