Hello friends.

I used this strange "anonymizer" as we were quite busy the last days,
and at least this will inform you we are still here. Well, in fact we
aren't. We are now THERE, inside the zone. I suppose one of our backups
will send you visual data of our entering (if the military not just
shot us, that is) real soon now.

May the Spirits be with you all, and good luck.
Canis

+++++ Subject: We are...

You have been informed we are in the open again. As you can see, I am
still way too tired to use my usual deck, plus there have been several
nasty changes in the past... ye spirits, it has been half a year.

To state it clearly: We didn't manage to reach our primary goal on this
mission. Canis was sure we could find a link - "ritual" he calls it -
to the bug hives that followed Bull, or more precisly, Bull's children.

We didn't find anything that fulfilled the specifications to run a
"ritual magic spell" construct, but we did find... something else.
Military was really interested. You'll see what our nearly six months
in hell brought to light...

Just to give you a feel on what we encountered in there...

Several people in combat gear walk down a street. The scenery looks
desolate, rubble is on the deserted streets. The men look around
vigilantly. Suddenly someone to the left yells "Contact!". The Camera
whirls around and centers on some grotesque mixtures between men and
winged insects, possibly bees or wasps. Halve the mercs the camera
covers knee down and open fire at the creatures, while the others get
out a collection of melee weapons like swords and combat axes and take
stance to protect the shots. You hear Canis' voice: "True forms inbound
in three... two..."

The continuous fire from the mercenaries takes their toll from the flesh
forms, and a grenade detonating in mid-air disturbs their attack even
more. Suddenly three enormous wasps materialize between the fighters.
Suddenly a large man wearing a checkered kilt and swinging a large
sword, a claymore, charges the first wasp, followed by an elf equipped
with a gleaming Katana. The mercenaries with melee weapons react nearly
as fast and charge the other wasps before they have a chance to act.

While the controlled bursts keep the flesh forms at distance,
eventually downing all but one of them, the true forms offer higher
resistance and keep the attackers busy when suddenly a female voice
yells "Two north". The camera whirls around again just in time to
witness another wasp piercing its sting into a mercenary who was firing
at the flesh forms. "Drek" a voice mutters as the camera, that seems to
be attached to a rifle, rocks as the rifle spouts a burst at the wasp
without much success. For a brief moment there is a slight shimmer in
the air that seems to connect a female mercenary with the closest spirit
that screams in agony. The mercs nearby cease firing and charge the
wasps in pairs with their bayonets.

"Sani! Medic! Come here!" Canis yells, running toward the
stung and now fallen over mercenary. The camera view chages toward the
injured man, on its way swinging up and showing only the sky. Then it
switches off.

Unfortunately Jani, who held the camera, was busy helping Thoom. Much to
our surprise we learned a new lesson when dealing with bugs - the spells
of the Antidote class as described in the Hermetics' Grimoire, I think
from the 17th edition onward, are an absolute must in here. Thoom will
make it, as Jani really is a pro, and the medkits we brought are
absolute state of the art.

We were really lucky on this encounter. It was just a small ... swarm I
think I can call it attacking us. Our superior number saved our ass. I
don't want to think what will happen in a one-on-one encounter. We'll
see.

Something happened after our fight. It was sad, but see yourselves...

"...it on NOW, damn!" Fohdytoo's voice yells at someone as the
picture comes back online with some static. The camera turns about 90
degrees to the left, quickly passing an injured merc lying on the
ground, with two more mercs kneeling besides him. It focuses on a group
of civilians who come cheering out in the street and run toward the
mercenaries. They cheer things like "They're here!", or just
"Hooray!".
As the first of the civilians just screams "They're rescuing us!",
Fohdytoo barks "Cover!". Immediately all visible mercs start running for
cover and aiming at the civilians. "You there - STOP!" The civilians
come to a struggeling halt, as several rifles chamber bullets audible.

"What are you doing?" Canis demands to know as he runs up to Fohdytoo,
but he's stopped by Hamish. In a hoarse voice, he urges Canis, "Remember
stands! We can't do a thing for'em, you fool!" Fohdytoo hasn't reacted
and keeps his automatic shotgun braced to the hip at the civilians, but
nods and answers: "He's right. We can't do a thing." Then he speaks
louder, "We are not the military. We can't do a thing for you. But
there's a supply of weapons 800 meters down the street. And now we
gotta..." "Shuttup! Bastard!" As the first of the civilians brings up
his rifle, several shots sound off and Fohdytoo, Hamish and Canis drop
prone as well as the bearer of the camera and the civilian, who took
several rounds to the chest. "Alpha, warn 'em! You there, DROP YOUR
WEAPONS RIGHT NOW!" Fohdytoo yells.

While the civilians stand surprised and look at their leader shocked,
several bursts riochet from the street before them, while a long one
with tracers in it draws a glowing line over their heads. "DROP 'EM
NOW!" Most civilians obey immediately, the others when the red dots of
laser sights appear on their chests. "Advance!", someone orders, and the
mercenaries do so, covering each other. Some proceed to the the
civilians, checking them for weapons, while others cover the building
they came from. "Cleared," two of them report after some seconds.
"Medic!" Fohdytoo orders, but McLaren can only confirm the civilian's
death. Other mercs unload the civilian's weapons, dropping the bullets
from the clips to the floor.

When this is done, the mercenaries quickly move, on their way again, and
the picture dissolves in static.
