OLD STALWART DIES DEFIANT
The former USS Iowa, the century-old battleship finally and permanently
removed from service in 2048, was lost at sea yesterday. While being
towed from the bankrupt Forbes Metal Recovery scrapyard, she broke her
cable and drifted a short distance up the Potomac before running
aground.

Attempts to recover her succeeded in floating her off the sandbank, but
once in open water a rising storm broke the tow again. The 60,000-ton
ship drifted out into the Atlantic, finally sinking in deep water over a
hundred miles offshore.

The Iowa was the last battleship to serve in the UCAS (or any other)
Navy, and one of the longest-serving warships in the Navy's history: her
like will never grace the seas again.
