>>>>>[ Oops. Didn't mean to pause the interrogation. Damn phone
calls.

+++++ continue interrogation transmission

*Whirlwind* Go to the bodyguard on the right. Probably will get less
out of him. On five, four, three, two, one, go.

Midnight claps and there is a flash, and a cry from the "demon."

"How are you my child?"

A hoarse, angry voice responds, "I'm not your child."

*Midnight* Arrogant sod.
*Geiger* Not for long.

Midnight says soothingly, "Really, everyone is my child. I know all,
and see all. But I like stories. What's yours?"

"I make a living. I have a wife --" He screams in pain as the demon
let's out a ferocious roar.

The demon screams, "I hunger! He is my PREY! I WON'T LET YOU PROTECT
HIM!"

Midnight waves his hand in a disinterested gesture. Their is a burst
of lightning and then a waft of burnt flesh in the air. "Not yet, he
isn't!" He pauses and walks around a little.

*Whirlwind* Implanting an emotion about feeling sorrow for having to
make you protect him.

Midnight says, "You know, I cannot protect you forever. The more you
lie to me, the closer the demon is to claiming you. I grieve that I
may not be able to save you. Be truthful to yourself, because it may
be your only chance."

The guard looks apologetic but doesn't say anything.

*Whirlwind* He's fighting it. Sorrow isn't a natural emotion for him
apparently. Truth serum is running through him though. Unlike the
woman, he can't lie to you.
*Geiger* Skip him for now. I can move him to stage two.
*Midnight* No. This will be a quick one, as it is.

"What is your job like, son?"

"I'm not your son."

"You are lying to yourself!" He motions and he rivets in pain, but
doesn't scream out this time.

"Tell me a story about what I want to hear. I know this person named
Sprinkler. I know you had contact with him. Tell me about him."

"Why?"

Midnight sighs, "Well, for starters, I could just feed you to the
demon. Second, it is in my power for me to save you so that you can
return to your wife. It is in my power to make you return alive or
from the grave. Would you really want to haunt her like that?
Besides, all you have to do is entertain me, and tell me about my old
friend, Sprinkler."

The man hesitates and then says, "Sprinkler? I seem to remember that
name. Was an elf kid, rail thin, pretty tall?" Seeing Midnight nod,
he continues, "He was nervous on the approach, but was calm as ice
during negotiations. I can't recall --"

"Can't or won't?"

"Can't. Its in my training not to eavesdrop. They had a long
conversation. Sprinkler did most of the talking. Didn't seem like
much of a kid, wheeling and dealing like he did. Boss didn't talk
about it, and I didn't care."

"How many meets does your boss have in a typical week?"

"A lot."

"Why do you remember some elven child named Sprinkler?"

"Because he was not like any kid I've seen. His eyes had wisdom. It
was a complete act from what I could tell. Don't know what he said."

"Did you tell your boss your observations?"

"I only told my boss that he was a player. I didn't say anything
else. Boss painfully reminded me to be only a bodyguard and keep
focused on that alone and worry if someone is trying to play him for a
fool."

"Thank you."

"Huh?" Midnight waves a hand and Whirlwind flips a switch.

*Geiger* Move him to level 2. He is still fighting the serum and is
being uncooperative.
*Whirlwind* Right. Take a drink of water Midnight.
+++++ pause interrogation transmission

DAMN IT!!! Why the hell does Midnight have trid-marketers calling him
at this hour?!? ]<<<<<
