>>>>>[Since this needs not to get back to the people who inquired about
it originally, the encryption is necessary.

I recently received a set of documents that I'd like to tell you all
about, in brief.

Val, Haven was targeted by the VR because Maxim felt you were a theat to
her. You're very principles became a liability as she felt your
connections to those runners who rescued me last year made you and Haven
dangerous. She wanted to destroy Haven because it would hurt us.

Everyone, Maxim Arms now has nuclear weapons. The runs here involving
Gaiatronics, Shaiwase, and Ares were Maxim runs to acquire raw materials
for a nuclear stockpile. I don't know who you all were, and I don't
care, but you helped Maxim in the process.

Maybe if we're lucky, the recent destruction of Maxim Warsaw was a second
Ensenada strike to teach Maxim a lesson and force them to disarm thier
nukes.

That's the jist of the documents I have. So, if Maxim still has nukes,
what, if anything, are we going to do about it?]<<<<<

Disarming them would only be a temporary solution. The question is how do
we destroy the nukes without setting them off.]<<<<<

nukes provide any more of a threat to the world than we currently have.
What's so special about Maxim? Besides, the way to disarm the thing would
require someone from at least one of the runs that allowed Maxim to build
their nukes. This would tell us what type of nukes they are, and therefore
how to diffuse them.]<<<<<

C'mon, AJ, even I'm not that naive. And if the world has yet _another_
nuclear power (lessee, that makes.....damn, ran out of fingers) then
that is between the members of the atomic cafe club. The rest of us
just have more shadows to scuttle through. I don't know about the rest
of you, but a new or newly-important corp always means more business

In my own time I have wider interests, and my personal opinion is that
Maxim's nuclear arsenal is Not A Good Thing. Just so long as it's
clear that this is in no way official and I represent nobody here.
(Sometimes not even myself <g>) My personal take is that the orbital
test was (a) dangerous - the consequences of a stage failure, for instance,
could have been severe, (b) unnecessary - the design was certainly a
'borrowed' one rather than built from scratch, this is century-old tech,
(c) intended to intimidate and rattle.

All of that worries me. I know several smaller corporations that hold a
tacnuke or three. Usually a last-ditch defensive measure. No tests, no
fanfare, and thus their arsenals are tolerated. I don't know that Maxim
believes in the 'no first use' policy, and they certainly go for
scorched earth. It is known that they called in a THOR strike on the
remains of the Warsaw facility, isn't it? On the enemy units around
there, on their own survivors, the works. Not encouraging for anyone
hoping they can be trusted with weapons of mass destruction.

>From what I've gathered, the Corporate Court moved forces into
place over several days for the Warsaw hit, presented Maxim with an
ultimatum, and then moved very fast to enforce it: they knew that
Maxim would refuse, stall, whatever. Ensenada, Round 2.

Now, the weapons are being consolidated at one location. As you say,
it might be desirable to do something about that, although it's much
easier said than done. I would be interested in taking some time off
work and assisting in any move to neutralise those weapons, though.
Nuclear warheads, in the hands of leaders of dubious stability, are one
of my many irrational phobiae.]<<<<<
