rolling English countryside far below, the coastline visible in the distance...
And, if you look hard enough, the roiling smoke column rising high through
the clouds over London. No longer Londons Above and Below, but no time now for
sober reflection. Forget, for now, the deaths of so many. and Swallow, for now,
the rage. Just remember the picture imprinted forever in your mind of those
whose worlds have been extinguished. Remember, and---
"More fighters ahead, people!"
"Can they see us?"
"At this speed?, c'mon! B'sides, their radar's useless..."

Unfortunately, you haven't reached mach 1 yet, and the explosion of the wing
of fighters deafens you even as it blinds you, for the fraction of a second
that it takes for the actinic shields and sound dampers to kick in.
