>>>>>[I don't know what the frag you are doing. The one phone line I have
for you simply rings and rings. Your e-mail box doesn't appear to have
checked for several days. Getting stinking drunk doesn't do a damn bit of
good. Trust me, I know.

Anyway, I'm currently on a sub-orbital to Budapest right now, so I hope
this message actually comes through clean; those satellite links aren't as
reliable as I would like them.

I'm going to hunt Helmut Shuler, aka Abbadon. His days can be counted in
the hours, so you can put the damn bottle down and start acting like a
Baroness and a solidier, damn it.

I'm expecting a message from you by the time I return.]<<<<<

chasing hard on CoT's trail, to being recalled to DC.

Why?

Because now the killings have stopped, and at least the first few of
Abbadon's vaunted chemical and/or biological weapons have turned out to
be nothing more malignant than blackcurrant yoghurt wrapped around
explosive charges (fine, he knows how to build a BW/CW bomb, but he
doesn't have or won't use the actual agents, why the hell did be bother
then?) the politicians have lost their nerve.

Having begged us to come in and help when the Congresscritters were
flapping their hands and shouting "Do something! Do _anything_!",
they've now decided that our methods are "provocative, unsafe and
unlawful" and pulled the plug.

Some Federal task force is being formed to "continue the evaluation of
the situation". None of the staffers on it have been outside the Beltway
in years, there isn't a field agent on the list. In other words, the
politicos chickened out and let CoT get away.

Coppinger's calm about it. Couldn't figure why. He says that he got what
he wanted out of the situation and wouldn't explain further. Lilith is
incandescent: you think I'm pissed off, you should see her right now.
Stephanie's even worse, she stormed off to go back to the Rebels, I feel
sorry for anyone who gets in her way right now.

I wish I could help you. But I have my orders, which are to get off the
CoT case in word, thought and deed, and I've been told from no less than
three quarters to follow them. (Three quarters? Sort of incomplete.
Never mind.)

Anyway, since I'm not allowed to chase CoT, I figured I might head back
to Glamis for a while. When you get done with kamerad Schuler, you're
welcome to come visit.]<<<<<

>>>>>>[Very curious.

I have my own thoughts about the situation, but I'll reserve judgement for
now. But perhaps the reason Mr. Coppinger is so relaxed about the
situation is the fact that he knows Abbadon will be removed from the
playing field. Perhaps he is able to see that this in itself is a victory,
regardless of how the chess piece was removed from the board.

Abbadon will meet an untimely end Susan. I can understand the overpowering
desire for revenge, especially for Lilith. To take vengeance with your own
two hands. But you'll have to live vicariously through me, or whoever
might be ahead of me in the game. I'm close enough I can almost smell him;
he'll be dead by the end of the weekend.

Once the deed is done, I'll be dropping by Glamis on my way back to
Seattle. I've never actually made it that far north. I expect there will
be some of Scotland's finest there to drink. If not, I'll be most
displeased, Baroness.]<<<<<
