The camera in Ernang's office watches the room, and the marvellous
eastward view, as a black-clad FRAG trooper enters, halts, executes a
drillbook salute.

"At ease, Lieutenant Waller." Ernang returns the salute. "How can I help
you?"

"Sir. The lieutenant is deeply concerned at certain rumours currently
circulating within the unit."

"Rumours. Who's spreading them?" Ernang looks up sharply.

"The Lieutenant has a poor memory for names, sir."

"Very well. I hope she has a better memory for detail."

"Of course, sir. It's alleged that our operations are unsanctioned.
Indeed, that we are opposed by members of the UCAS intelligence
community. Is that true, sir?" Waller asks: she keeps her eyes level and
aimed forwards.

Ernang sighs. "Do you believe those allegations?"

"The Lieutenant trusts their source sufficiently to raise her concerns
with her commanding officer, sir." Waller replies, emotionless.

"Do you trust unelected bodies like the CIA?"

"Sir. Who elected us, sir?" Waller asks.

There is a long pause.

"You're a good junior officer, Waller. You clearly lack an understanding
of the bigger issues-"

"Sir. That's why I'm raising my concerns." Lieutenant Waller interrupts
her CO. "I'm only an O-2 and not privy to many issues. But I trust my
commander to explain to me the reasoning behind my orders, when doubt is
raised about their legitimacy."

"_Who_ raised... cancel that." Ernang takes a moment to control himself.
"Lieutenant, there is a deep institutionalised corruption within the
CIA. That is a fact of life. Name me one person who would trust a CIA
analysis of any situation. Nobody would - they're known to be thoroughly
corrupt and incompetent. Their main role, and what sustains them, is
illegal manipulation of information to support their chosen politicians.
_They_ are the enemy, Waller, they're the danger. Of course they fear
us, of course they hate us, of course they'll use third parties to plant
disinformation to spread dissent among us. Are you understanding me?"

"I believe so, sir." Waller nods.

"I don't want to know who planted doubts in your mind. But nod if they
had CIA connections." Ernang suggests: and Waller nods.

"You see my point. They fear us because we identify and move against
their corruption and incompetence. So, they spread lies to turn us
against ourselves. Helen, they can't comprehend the idea that a FRAG
lieutenant would actually take her concerns directly to her commander!
They can't understand that. They don't believe it's possible. It's not
the way the CIA works, and their plan never took that into account. Ask
yourself why, if there were 'doubts', there is no investigation, no
direct action." Ernang presses his point. "Just lies and rumours and
insinuation."

Waller needs to have a fatal accident, soon. Pin it on the CIA somehow,
or make it a random crime.

Turn up the heat on our tame politicians. Give them a few extracts of
this conversation, and point out that they're not doing their jobs, if
our own people are getting fed tales like this.

And find and kill that bastard Lynch.]<<<<<
