>>>>>[Ah, Mr. Irish - long a member of this particular community. It
gladdens the heart to that you still live.

To answer your question: maybe. Those that theorize that the gaiasphere is
a function of biomass say that given a sufficient amount of living
creatures, a gaiasphere affect would occur. These scientists argue over
how much biomass is needed for such an event to occur. Most argue, based
on Zurich Orbital, that it would take a fairly significant amount of life
and that it would almost certainly require more bio-diversity than just
(meta)humans.

There are those that would contend that the gaiasphere is more an integral
function of our planet than of biomass - which implies that magic should
work on other planets and perhaps our moon - but not in the open space
between planets, i.e. space. Sort of like stating that the theorized
gaiasphere is something like gravity, a natural occurrence "caused" by our
planet.

There are other, stranger, theories that abound also, including a bizarre
theory I just ran across on MagicNet that states that we are moving through
a "cloud" of astral energy right now, and that these clouds exist naturally
in the galaxy and that these clouds are partially responsible for the
so-called missing matter of creation. A well thought out theory, but no
supporting evidence.

Of course, if you are willing to believe the claims of those that say they
have astrally walked upon the moon, the whole question is moot.]<<<<<

As for biomass etc. It would take a massive and diversified amount of
biomass just to support a colony on another planet (I worked it out in
an anthropology class, and we figuered that it'd take about 5-10 acres
of greehouse, plus an additional acre or so of hydroponics just to
support 20 people indeffinetly on Mars). That could provide the
nessicary materieal.

If it only takes a planetoid, then the mages are set. They can move
into any colony just like anybody else and set-up shop.]<<<<<

>>>>>[I feel I should point out that ZO does -not- qualify as a significant
living community. Hell, I've seen houses in Damascus that are more 'crammed'
than ZO. Outside of Aneiki and a few other twisted old snots, there are the
maintenance crowd and a few others at a time. Not more than 30 or so I'd
guess.
I think I would like to be part of the crowd that contends the gaiasphere
is an integral function of our world. And yes, I like to believe that other
worlds -could- have manafields as well. But please remember, I like to
believe in the "Pandoran Theory" also.
Additionally, there are a few physicists out there that have placed "magic"
into the realm of "Small Forces" in the universe, similar to gravity, but
different in it's own nature (and of course they don't like to converse those
differences ;). I think I find the "cloud of astral energy" a bit goofy, but
actually not all that unbelievable, especially if one takes FAB into
consideration. But then, that is the Hermetic Side and I get in trouble every
time I venture there.
Regardless of "Astral Moonwalking" opinions, perhaps tDS we should consider
the possibility of "Luna" being a force much like "Gaia", only unique
in her
own nature as well ... and I know that more than a few "Moon Druids" would
contend that the moon has magic (chuckle at the irony) and a vast influence on
"the magic of earth" as well.]<<<<<
