Hello there, I'm Charlie Fingers and this is the latest news on the
Patrick O'Kennedy trial.

Today saw the start of the true presentation of evidence by the
Prosecution. The Prosecution started by calling Agent Holly Orchard, an
Interpol decker responsible for aquiring much of the documentary
evidence. She was put on the stand and explained her operations working
for Special Branch. These are some of the highlights of her testimony:

+++++You see a well dressed woman, wearing a suitjacket, flats, and below
the knee skirt, with an Interpol badge in her breat pocket and the
shoulder flash of Special Branch on her left shoulder, sitting the in the
box. She has shoulder length hair and a datajack at her left temple.

"Could you describe for me the job you do for Interpol, Ms. Orchard."

"I perform Matrix policing and evidence acquisition on various terrorist
and criminal organizations and individuals."

"And how do you perform this function?"

"I utilize utilize a cyberdeck in order to legally penetrate private
systems. I also use several specialized programs that are designed to
become resident in a target's system or cyberdeck and record everything
they do within the system or with the cyberdeck."

"And you have performed these actions in an investigation into Mr.
O'Kennedy, is that correct?"

"Yes, I have."

The Prosecution went on to present various documents that she had aquired
with her skills and programs, and to ask her about certain conversations
she had witnessed between Mr. O'Kennedy and other individuals, whom she
identified as the Matrix personas of a decker known as Mercury, the
terrorist and arms dealer Alexander Jackson, the wanted murderer Byron
Edwards, alias Slash, and many others.

In cross examination, the Defense asked about the procedure that Interpol
followed in order to acquire this information, including the documents
admitted into evidence. This is what followed:

"What laws does the utilization of programs called Dataworms fall under,
Ms. Orchard?"

"They fall under the wiretapping laws."

"And as such require a court order to be legal, is that correct?"

"Yes."

"Did you have a court order when you planted the dataworm in Mr.
O'Kennedy's deck?"

"Mr. O'Kennedy uses a turtle, or a dumb terminal as it is usually known,
not a deck. But yes, I did have a court order when I planted the
dataworm in his turtle."

"How did Mr. O'Kennedy not know that he was being watched when you
supposedly observed his interactions with these criminals?"

"His terminal is unsophisticated and unable to penetrate what deckers
call masking, or the ability to hide oneself in the Matrix."

"And you say that the criminals were unable to spot you as well?"

"Yes."

"How? Wern't they using more sophisicated technology than a...'turtle',
I think you called it?"

"Yes, they were all using cyberdecks. However, the deck I use in the
Matrix is very technolgically advanced, just shy of the leading edge of
deck technology and programming, and thier decks were unable to compete."

After this, some visual footage from the conversations mentioned by Ms.
Orchard were presented as evidence. Ms. Orchard identifed Mr.
O'Kennedy's persona icon as well as the icons of Mercury, Mr. Jackson,
and Mr. Edwards. When asked how she knew these were the icons of the
individuals involved, she went into an explanation of Matrix iconography
and the personalization of personas to the taste of the programmer. It
essentially came down to the years of experience she's had with the
Matrix and with tracking these individuals.

In addition, several Lone Star police were put on the stand and described
thier actions and observations as video and audio evidence was
presented. The explained the operation of surveillance drones in Seattle
as well as the specifics. The Defense made a show of appearing appalled
with the possibility that surviellance drones were all over the metroplex
at all times. However, the Lone Star police riggers commented that the
drones were usually used for simple operations such as traffic patrol,
but that they were also used to gather evidence. The presented videos
showed someone meeting with members of the local Organized crime
syndicates as well as the leaders of several of the largest gangs in
Seattle. When asked how, from the distance the camera was from the
individuals, they could make out who they were, the Lone Star riggers
commented that they were capable of zooming in on the individuals, and
demonstrated on the tape. Upon closeup, one of the individuals always
appeared to be Mr. O'Kennedy, although the Defense brought into question
the quality of the video to be capable of distinguishing Mr. O'Kennedy.

In an answer, the Prosecution called several Lone Star computer experts
who described, in detail, the methods thier computers were able to
improve resolution on facial features and they presented computer
enhanced frames of video. In the enhanced video, the individual was
unmistakably Mr. O'Kennedy.

This finished up the trial for the day, and the Judge called a recess at
4:15. It will begin again tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
