Good evening, I am Charlie Fingers, here in the Municipal Court where not
20 minutes ago the first day of Metroplex of Seattle vs. Patrick J.
O'Kennedy was recessed.

Unfortunatlye, media cameras have been banned from the courtroom in an
attempt to keep a tighter control on the trial, as well as to ensure
attorny/client privacy and to maintain as secret the faces of the jurors.

However, this reporter has been allowed, along with many others, to
observe the proceedings from an isolated media box, and this I'll try to
give you a sense of the day's proceedings.

Today was a day of surprise movements by both the prosecution and the
defense, as well as opening arguments. It starte with the Defense moving
to dismiss the case based on the source of the evidence, nearly all of
which has been provided by Interpol. The argument was based on the
occasionally borderline-legal methods that Interpol utilizes to retrieve
it's evidence. However, the Prosecution stated that, unless the Defense
could cite specifics for this case, prior problems with Interpol's
evidence should not directly affect the evidence for this case. The
judge denied to dismiss the case.

There were several other attempts to dismiss the case on other grounds,
but they all failed to convince the judge.

Opening arguments came after lunch, with the Prosecution first. The
Prosecution basically stated that they would prove, using all the
evidence they have available, that all the charges against Mr. O'Kennedy
were accurate. They would prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he
operates a private orphanage where he has aided numersous times the
healing of individuals wanted for felonys, that he has helped them escape
the proper executives of the law, Lone Star Security, that he'd been
party to several of the criminal acts of known felons, that he is guilty
of the kidnapping of children, etc. The prosecution claimed to have
witnesses to many of the acts, depositions by parents when thier children
went missing and then reappeared at Haven, camera footage from Lone Star
recon drones showing Mr. O'Kennedy engaging in illegal transactions with
members of organized crime, electronic documents obtained from several
local, private BBS's showing that he is good friends with many known
criminals and has aided them occasionally, etc.

The Defense, in thier opening arguments, claimed that all the evidence
was questionable and that very little of it is "hard" or was acquired
through legal means. They claimed to have many individuals who can vouch
for Mr. O'Kennedy's character, that can provide alibis, and that can
explain how or why Mr. O'Kennedy was involved in the actions of
criminals. In addition, they too have documents and depositions that
support the fact that Mr. O'Kennedy is not guilty. In conclusion to the
their opening statements, the Defense said, "In conclusion, Patrick
O'Kennedy is neither a felon, nor is he guilty of any of the charges with
which he is being charged. And even the Prosecution's vaunted evidence
will be unable to prove he is."

The trial is slated to begin again tomorrow at 10 AM.
