>>>>>[Well, life goes on...

Reported crime in Tarislar more than doubled in the last couple of
months. "Oh, no!", cry the politicians. "What could have caused that?"
The
obvious answer is Lieutenant Hart and her Task Force. It's her fault
crime's gone up, so get her out and crime will fall.

Simple, obvious, and wrong.

I mean, you don't need to be a genius to realise that people in Tarislar
were starting to report some of the drek that was happening because
they thought Hart and her crew actually gave a damn... so of course
reports go up, even as people actually start walking around in the evenings
because they think it's safer than it used to be.

Get rid of Hart and go back to the usual dirty crew from Puyallup South,
and soon those Tarislar residents will stop reporting crimes (and going
outdoors after dark) and Lone Star's statistics will look peachy again.

Score one for the Mob - I hear she was putting a real kink in their
operations 'round that way.

Speaking of the Mob, Eric Descabiere continues to claim he's running a fair
slice of Tarislar out as far as Easyville, which is a good thing because it
seems his soom-to-be-ex wife is going to end up with a chunk of his Fort
Lewis operation.

Why does Don Eric have to keep _claiming?_ Because between Hart's cops
and some "unnamed vigilantes", for whom read anything from the butt-
end of the Nobilis Domini to Luigi Bartolo's crew to some other up-and-
comer, he's getting bled white in there. Being Human and hostile in an Elf
'hood does that, I guess... don't you feel sorry for the man?

The mystery is, why Descabiere hasn't pulled back or collapsed. Someone's
propping him up and spending mucho to do it. Which could mean
interesting employment opportunities for the more actively minded folk
round here.

Anyway, that's all I have to say. Place has been kind of dead lately,
though. Anyone still around?]<<<<<

>>>>>[Take a look at this:

+++++Begin Security Camera Footage
The picture is from a security camera at SeaTac, directed towards a door
where a sub-orbital flight from Boston is unloading. After a dozen or so
people come through, the image zooms in on a specifc face and freezes. The
time stamp reads "17:39:47"

It is a young man, perhaps in his mid twenties, dressed in jeans, t-shirt,
leather jacket, and sunglasses. His hair is sandy brown and cut short, and
his goatee is closely trimmed. Over his shoulder is a padded cyberdeck case.
+++++End Security Camera Footage

The individual was registered on the flight as Matthew James Ellis. Records
show that he is an employee of Novatech, working out of the headquarters in
Boston. Other contacts have uncovered that he used to work as an independant
operative in Seattle, operating under the handle of Coyote. He was last seen
in this area in 2055. He was often associated with the mercenary unit known
as Chance & Co, but did not work for them exclusively. The team disbanded in
mid 2055.

His skills as a computer programmer are highly ranked. When he was in
Seattle previously, he had a reputation as a highly skilled maverick, known
for his smart frame "hounds". While his decking skill may have faded over
the past years, it is likely that he has learned more tricks, and has
state-of-the-art technology to support his efforts. He should not be
underestimated.

I've found what you sent me after. I expect full payment. Further
surveillance can be negotiated through the usual channels.]<<<<<

don't need you to trust me, and I don't trust any of you, so let's do this
like a business arrangement.

You all have a meeting place of some sort. It probably won't be standing
very long now that Calfo's goons are gunning for you. What I propose is
this:

You circulate some flyers about a huge gathering at the meeting place for a
specific night next week. Gather all of your people (or not, as you want)
and make it look like the biggest meeting of Eco-concious people this side
of the Chicago sprawl. While you all are having fun, Calfo's goons will
probably also make an appearance.

I'll make sure they don't make it up the driveway. Anything that gets burned
or broken of yours, I'll pay for. As a show of good faith, I'll make a
deposit available in >>account<< to the tune of >>gratuitous
amount<<. You
should be able to access the account using >>credentials<< for the next 7

If this sounds like a deal, let me know. Course, I could just let Calfo's
goons have you, but I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

Piotr Janeyevich Vossov, a.k.a. 'Peter the Great'. The family lawyer.

Goldeneye. Imaginitive name, isn't it? He looks after some of the
off-street illegalities. Started out in prostitution, but expanded it to
blackmail and some dabbling in drugs and BTLs. Calfo's not had that much
luck with those away from Stovington, though... this isn't the big city.

Shall we say that I would not mourn much if any or all of those three
were to have serious accidents?

As for the club... the door is guarded by a pair of imposing trolls, and
two more circulate inside. Since many of Calfo's men visit Headlights
when in town, they seem to believe they need little additional security.
The door is also protected by a basic magnetic anomaly detector, but the
guards pay it little heed: I was able to bluff past it easily by wearing
a number of metallic items.

Timescales... I'd like them disabled for a respectable time, a month
being sufficient. Longer would be pleasant but probably
superfluous.]<<<<<

update, but well frankly there hasn't been much out there. I have
received some info from an unnamed individual who broke one of my
encryption programs. I have since upgarded and improved the security
on my postings, but this guy gives me the creeps. Anyway, according
to him, the sister Tiana Solarial, under the name Tina Apollonius,
has been living for the past eight months in South-East Asia, in the
country of Tir Qu'myn, one of the 'new' Chinese/Vietnamese
warlord-run territories. This info should be taken with a grain of
salt, though. I'm continuing my search just in case.]<<<<<

As I said, everything I had was gone.

I contacted the sysadmin, and she said the most recent backup was about
13 days old. This is not good, but it could be worse. I did manage to
save a couple of files, most notably the FAQs for all of the lists, but
once the files are restored, I'll have about 48 hours or so of rebuilding
to do (lots of scripts lost).

Look at that, the prick even stole my .signature.

We think we know who it is, we might even be able to get him.

The bad part is, as I feared, I did lose all of the reseach for my thesis.

*sigh*

I am going to get myself a really stiff drink now and try to wash the
adrenelin out of my system. This is most UN-FUN.

First, sorry I reposted half the original without comment. I got distracted.

Second: I don't think losing any of the Shadow* stuff is as
inconvenient for us as losing your thesis materials.

Let us know.

>>>>>[Coyote, this is Chance. This is the scheduled update we had planned.
Let's get this going...

We landed without any difficulty at all, and we have headed down into the
building without meeting any resistance at all. Apparently the codes and so
forth that Durandal took with him haven't been canceled yet. I find that a
little odd, but I'm not about to give them up. We are approaching the
personnel department where the sample is being held. Everything looks clear.

This is much easier than I anticipated... we have met no resistance at all
with any of the doors, nor have we met any security personnel. Well, here's
hoping that everything else goes as well... I'm gonna download this portion of
our transmissions... standby to receive...

***** Transmission Log Opened *****
***** Log Commencing *****

: All right Coyote, is the log working?
: Fine Chance... it's reading you clearly.
: Good. We're moving down the hallway now, towards the personnel
section. Keep the systems monitored.
: Monitoring. Everything is clear... I'm skating through this with no
problems at all.
: Good. All units check in.
: Widow checking in.
: Blaze checking in.
: Laurissa checking in.
: Durandal checking in.
: Good. All units in position. Coyote, open the personnel door.
: Opening...
: All right Chance, I'm heading in. You guys cover me.
: Blaze, you go with him. Durandal, make it as fast as possible...
: Roger.
: Widow, take left. Laurissa, right. I'll stay here at the door.
: Chance, this is Blaze. We are now searching for Durandal's file.
: Roger. Move it along, guys.
: I found it, Chance. I'm destroying the file now...
: All right. Let's move out. Which way to the storerooms?
: Down this way.
: All right, let's move.
>>>alarm klaxons begin to sound<<<
: Guys! We got a problem! Matrix just went bright red! I don't know what's
happening!
: What are you talking about, Coyote?
: I don't know... things just went off. I didn't do anything, I don't think...
hold on ** Attack utility executed ** Take that you fraggin' icicle!
: Coyote, this is Chance! Give us a report!
: Chance, I gotta bug out... the ice is getting heavy... somebody tripped an
alert elsewhere in the system, and we're getting trapped in it!
: Frag. All right guys, no shopping trip now. We're gonna get out of here.
Let's go.
: Coyote, can you try and keep the way ahead of us clear?
: No guarantees, Widow. I'll do my best... the ice in here is thick.
: All right. I'm cutting this off for now, Coyote. I'll get back in touch in a
few minutes.

alone... no sign of her brother around anywhere... we didn't ask questions...
we just picked her up and brought her back here... she went into her room and

us... just sitting in there quietly...

>>>>>[Bingo! Jac's finally scored an almost lead.

He was putting one of the new kids on the rack when the kid broke.
Said he was visited last week. Visited by someone he'd seen on the
vidphone with Freddy, but, natch, he's got no name and not much of a
description: medium height, medium build, yadda, yadda, yadda. We've
ran him past one of the mages, but he came up blank. Days there was
too much trauma later on and his memories are "fuzzy".

Sose, this fella breaks into Bouvier's apartment and gets in his
face. Starts telling him Bouvier'll get into Casa de Frypp and
change players. So, the kid gets up some nerve and tries to fight
him. The guy throw Bouvier across the room and walks into the
kitchen. Comes back with a bottle of drain cleaner and a butcher
knife. Belts back the cleaner like it was a beer.

He slumps over, dead, right? Nope. He gets up and shoves the knife
into his gut. Drops over into a pool of his own blood. Dead, right?
Nope. Stands up, this time with a circle of fire around his head - or
at least that's what Bouvier says - and tells Bouvier that he'll drag
his eternal soul to hell - or some such babble. Really got to the
kid, I guess.

Well... instead of taking the door, guess how this guy leaves
Bouvier's apartment? Out the window. Twenty-five floor drop, splat
to the pavement. Dead, right? 'Course not. Climbs onto a passing
bike and disappears.

Yuck. Weird stuff. Anybody heard of anything like that happening
before?]<<<<<

It is good to hear from you.

Unfortunately, I became aware, not long after my last message, that my
presence was becoming a matter of concern or interest to the people I was
living near, and so, have since moved on to a place where it seems my
natural appearance is more acceptible, or perhaps simply less noticed.
There have been no other difficulties.

I have used utmost discression on the few occasions when I decided to
employ my mercurial talents in the express interest of not attracting undo
attention, as much as that might sound like a contradiction. The secret
of my talents is one I am not given to share with anyone, regardless of
trust. Regardless, out of respect for you, I have not allowed myself to
become intimate enough with anyone such that sufficient trust would form
to allow me to even consider such a matter. So, you need not concern
yourself about me.
