Power Outage in Highlands Makes Chic Reek

Los Angeles (AP) - Another power outage in the Highland suburbs area yesterday
caused serious damage to city drains and electrical conduits, resulting in
city-wide property damage.
City officials began investigation today into the causes of a drainage
backup which resulted in the loss of power to the Highland area power grid
yesterday evening. The mayor was not available for questioning, but her office
has released an official "no comment."
The Herald of Los Angeles was able, however, to obtain an interview
with Gerome Rothsby, of Rothsby & Childs, the contracters hired to repair
damages caused by the outage.
--[paste interview]--
H: Mr. Rothsby, I really appreciate you meeting with us on such short
notice.
R: Don't trouble yourselves about it; we at Rothsby & Childs believe
strongly in the need to maintain communication with the public, so that
we can minimize the chance for any mis. ..
H: Yes, sir. We understand fully your position. Now. . .If we could
turn to matters at hand. . .
R: Of course. Well, it seems that some sort of static discharge
occurred in the Highlands area. While the discharge was unable to affect
the power grid, it was powerful enough to damage some systems, namely
water and sewage transportation systems in the area.
H: I see, sir. Then, what you are telling me is that there was
actually never any damage to the power grid at all.
R: Not from the discharge itself, no.
H: In your professional opinion sir, what was the cause of the power
outage which occurred in the Highlands area last night?
R: Well, it appears that the sewage systems were all shunted to the
Highlands area due to a freak mismanaging of routing commands
caused by the discharge.
H: So, then, the backed-up sewage transport was actually responsible for
the loss of power last night?
R: Yes, ma'am. It would appear so.
--[end of interview]--

This power outage is just the latest in a series of strange occurrences
in the Highlands area during the last twelve days. Last night's incident,
though not causing any serious damage, was the most severe of the week's.
Village Security has been unable to determine if there is any link
between the outage and recent events in the Highland area. No representative
of VS was available for comment.
