I've got it. I know how we can stop MONICA. She has explicit
instructions from Howe to get RUFUS. What if we give her what she
wants? Now wait, this isn't a cold-hearted idea, let me finish.

To us, all of the deckers reading this, RUFUS is just a piece of
software, albeit a very elaborate piece. Software can be both
copied and manipulated. What if we were to duplicate RUFUS, and
modify the duplicate's code.

What good will that do? Look at what happened to Splut. The first
thing MONICA did was to appropriate Splut into her basic code. We
can assume that MONICA will appropriate RUFUS in the same way.
But, if we program our duplicate RUFUS with some kind of a
booby-trap, perhaps we can use that to bring MONICA down. Talk
about the ultimate trojan horse.

Unfortunately, this has two problems. #1) Getting RUFUS to go
along with it (hell, even contacting him) and #2) The ethical
considerations of cloning an intelligence and then essentially
sending that intelligence to its doom.

We cannot kill MONICA in the matrix. We might be able to stop her
expansion or at least slow her, but we cannot get by her defenses
by brute force. It requires subtlety, prayer and luck.]<<<<<
