Omega Island was a hotbed of activity today after nearly two weeks of
news blackout. As soon as news net reports started coming in, the island
erupted with military activity.
It has been confirmed that the so called terrorists are actually a
rebellion against the Omega government, and the revelation has sent a
shockwave through the world diplomatic community. To further fan the fires,
the rebels staged a series of simultaneous assaults on the capital city and
the surrounding areas. The Omega Army beat back the rebels, but at a great
cost. Since the attack, Omega President Micheal Jamain has not been seen.
His waterfront home was apparently riddled with bullets, and onlookers reported
that an unmarked Half Track crashed through the front of the home, pulling
away minutes later. Although our sources cannot confirm, it is suspected that
the Rebels have captured the President.
Fires destroyed several buildings near the capitol and a number of
construction sites. Damage is estimated in the millions of nuyen.
At the same time, the computer system used to coordinate the Omega
government was hit by a major virus that completely disabled the system. The
authorities report that a number of deckers entered the supposedly inpenetrable
system and implanted the virus which still ravages the system.
Also, the Intrepid and several other Omega ships were attacked by
underwater troops. Several ships were sunk, and the Intrepid was left
temporarily stranded north of the Island due to damage caused by an explosion
in its engine room.
The leaders of the Omega government refused to comment on the attack, but
Tirandor has publically stated that he has proof that a group of UCAS nationals
have been aiding and abetting the rebels, who he refers to as a band of crimina
l anarchists. Mr. Quention also stated that the accusations made by Jacob
Marcus are a consummate work of fiction, worthy of an epic novel. Dr. Fung
was not available for comment, but has informed us through channels that
he agrees with his associates.
How the Omega government handles this latest crisis could very well
determine the future of this tiny island nation.
