RUSH: Rush Fielding for INN, bringing you the latest on Omega Island.
Several governments have announced their intentions to recognize the new
government of Omega Island. These include Aztlan, Germany, the CAS, and the
UCAS. Others are expected to follow suit in the next full meeting of the UN.

Omega Island has completed it's first elections since the fall of the old
government to the combined forces of the rebel PLA army and the German
interdiction force. The latest reports indicate that the ballots have been
counted and that the results will be announced shortly. We have Rob Kelton
live from Omega Island to bring us the results.

<image of Tirandor Square. The only evidence of last week's struggle are the
bullet holes raking across the facades of several buildings. All other
evidence of the massacre has been removed. Interestingly enough, the statue
of Tirandor is missing from the center of the square, it has been replaced
with a giant Omega symbol carved in black stone. People fill the square once
again, this time waiting in silence for the election results to be announced
on the giant LCD screen anchored to a building on the North side of the square.
The screen crackles to life, and the face of Marco Perkins, the man appointed
to announce the results appears. Rob is standing with Marcus with the screen
in the background>

ROB: It would appear that the election results will be posted in just a few
minutes. Mr. Marcus, what do you think your chances are?

MARCUS: As I have said before, it is not my intention to force myself on the
people, so I have not campaigned at all. Those who are running are all
competent, I will not be dissapointed. My only concern is that Micheal Jamain
is in the running. I'm not sure if his association with the past regime has
been forgotten enough to give him victory. He is a good man, he was just
trapped by circumstance. I doubt that our former "leaders" gave him much
choice in the matter. Diana Sands and Steven Wu are both excellent candidates,
they both have the ability to do credit to the revolution and have no
association with the old government, making either of them a likely choice.

ROB: Do I understand you correctly? You have no aspirations for political
office?

MARCUS: Don't get me wrong, there is nothing I'd like more than to serve my
people, but I'm not that well suited for the job. My task was to free this
country and see that a fair and just government is set up. That alone is more
than enough to accomplish in one lifetime.

ROB: What would you do if the citizenry of Omega decided that they wanted you
anyway? Would you accept? Or would you risk dissapointing them?

MARCUS: I really don't see that happening, I consider that a wholly rhetorical
question.

ROB: I see...It looks like they are ready to announce the results.

VOICE: Free citizens of Omega, your votes have been cast and tabulated. The
total turnout for this election accounts for 95% of all eligible voters.
The results are....

Micheal Jamain : 3%
Steven Wu : 15%
Diana Sands: 16%

Citizens, the person you have chosen to be your president is a write in
claiming 66% of the votes is.......JACOB MARC....

<The crowd roars the voice on the loadspeakers can no longer be heard>

ROB: I guess my question wasn't so rhetorical after all!

MARCUS: I had no idea...

ROB: It would appear that you have a decision to make.

MARCUS: I shouldn't have to make this choice, I'm not worthy...at the same
time, how can I deny their choice.......there is only one answer...
I ACCEPT!

<More cheers, Marcus is escorted away into the crowd>

ROB: There you have it, Jacob Marcus is now officially the president of
the new Omega Island Republic. A vision began by one man has been embraced
by the masses. A vision of a free and better life, a vision where people are
not bound to the whims of corporate politics in every aspect of their life.
Over the past months, people have fought and died for this vision. People
around the world have taken this struggle to heart. That vision belongs to
Jacob Marcus. It is only poetic justice that the man who first beheld this
vision should be the first to lead it into the future. This is Rob Kelton
for INN, signing off.

RUSH: Thank you Rob. On a side note, members of the German army were called
upon by the former provisional government to oversee and legitimatize the
elections. The German ambassador has stated that this has been done to remove
any doubt that the newly formed Omega Government is in fact legitimate and to
prevent the nightmare of the previous administration from happening again.
Rush Fielding for INN siging off. ]<<<<<
