enough genetic drift to be considered separate. Your so-called
'elves' are described thus because of their resemblances to other, more
ancient races, beings that your ancestors cowered from, under blankets
that provided no defense. Beings that your ancestors flattered, in the
vain hopes that the 'Fair Ones' would turn their attentions away, to
their neighbors or enemies.

Beings whom you have forgotten in your enthusiasm and logic, your
science and the rush of newfound power. Beings that still exist.
Still watch. Still hunger, and still take their prey in the dark
shadows of the street.

Do you know of anyone who has, inexplicably, disappeared? Did not show
up where they were supposed to, one night, and were found dead the next
morning? Or a murder file that was shut down or buried, never again to
be mentioned? How about a string of murders, all alike, and then ending
and the murderer never found?

The fight with Cat some time back has taken quite a bit out of me, but
don't be fooled -- if I needed to find one of you, I could. And I would.
And none of your bluster or 'street smarts' would be of any use in your
