If you really want to know what's in the box, I'll tell you. But not
without a little story about me as well as a little history.....

Nah, skip it. I'll cut to the chase.

Many, many years ago (well, about fifty in all actuality, remember I
am after all more than seventy years and an elf, so.... that's right
spike baby!) I was magically active, myself. I guess (hope really)
that I still am.

Between the early 2000's and the mid-2030's I managed to get myself in
pretty well with a prince of the Tir. I won't say which, but if you
know anything about the princes and spike babies you can probably
figure out which. Anyway, I used to work for him, searching out
other spike babies. The magiks were less powerful before the Year of
Chaos, but they were still here.

After the Battle of Redding, I started to realize what I had been
doing. I foresook the Gift, but not before putting my power into a
ring. To be a whole helluva lot more specific, my wedding ring. My
wife had just been killed by.... well... its not really important,
and I held my magic directly responsible. I vowed to someday return
and slay my wife's killer. I knew I'd need help, so I preserved the
Gift in my most prized possession, that ring.

I left the ring in Portland so it would be there when I returned to
get my revenge. I decided that the next time I'd use the Gift, I'd
use it to get my revenge. I've pretty well accepted the idea that
I'll die in the process.

I feel that I should get the ring back to help fight these spirits.
Hell, I don't know. I've been so resigned to using the magic to kill
- well, to kill - that I'm not sure if I can use it to help. I don't
know what will happen if I try to use the Gift again. I just don't
