( I had Sonic pull the plug on ol' Hangtime before the boy says something
he'll regret. )

Okay, Mr. Frypp, lemme explain.

Yeah, I'll bet if we took a poll -- assuming everyone was up front about
it -- the death toll of security guards geeked by members of this board
would be pretty hefty. STILL, I would say that a good shadowrunner can
get in and get out without killing anyone.

We aren't mercenaries and this ain't Desert Wars V; gun in this trade
are to get you OUT Of a bad situation, not IN one. Although, I'll admit
that I've killed men ... several times, and I remember the face of each
and everyone of 'em. And that's not easy. ]<<<<<

thing to do. Sonic and Hangtime here haven't had to kill anyone yet,
and if we do our jobs well, it won't be necessary.

What's more is that sec guards are professionals. So are shadowrunners.
So, don't you go preachin' to me about how hard it is for them. They
chose their lot, just like we did. SOMETIMES it just come down to us or
them, and most people -- never mind 'runners or guards specifically -- will
pick the other guy to buy it before them. Then it comes down to timing
and skill.

And I don't know what delusions you're keeping about 'runners living so
high on the hog. Some people, I know because I started out as one of
them, shadowrun to SURVIVE because they can't get legit jobs. Being
SINless isn't an asset if you try for the up-and-up. So, you can choose
to be the professional thief for the Big Guys or you can scrounge for
yourself. Shadowrunning's just it's /easier/ on the money side, but hard
on the life expectancy. Most 'runners I know are hovering above poverty
between each mission. It puts the bread on the table for them.

Powerhouse, Solitaire, Colossus, and even Doctor Doom, though he's a bit
atypical as 'runners go, knew all the risks and accepted them. Death
is part of this trade, the same for sec guards.

If any one of them'd gotten iced on a 'run gone bad we'd all feel like
drek, yeah, but not like this, 'cause this is different. WHY?

BECAUSE THEY MADE IT PERSONAL.

Dante's a spoiled little brat who never grew up with a primo deck and a
load of bread to back him up. He's been at the private little war with
US ... the shadowrunning community ... for quite a while now for its
entertainment value. He lives to inflict pain.

His feud with a few runners has resulted in Solitaire's being geeked in
a cowardly manner. Colossus was jumped by a whole squad of mercenary
types with enough firepower to reduce him to a grease spot on the road.

There's no respect here. There's no angle. There's just Dante killing
people he doesn't like. It's personal.

Apparently the Universal Brotherhood killed Powerhouse ... they don't
count as far as compassion goes 'cause they ain't human. They were
removing someone they obliquely saw as a threat and singled him out,
and geeked him in the most gory way possible for them. They'd've killed
more if given half a chance...

Herr Ganz, power tripper and player he was, wasn't professional at all
either in the way he dealt with his opponents. He tried to bribe people
to betray Jaez, he tried everything.

He was going to just shoot Doom for bein' a thorn in his side, just to
humiliate him, but Doom played on his pride and lured him into a sword
fight, even though he wasn't in shape for it at the time ... and payed
the price for victory, but it was his only option.

We don't bemoan these fine 'runners just because they had a visit from
the Grim Reaper. That's part of life. Every time you go on a 'run
there's a chance you won't come back. But NONE of these people were on
a run when they got iced. Solitaire was taken unawares, Colossus was
jumped, Powerhouse was trying to propose to Cerise, and Doom was tasting
freedom for the first time in months.

When someone has got your number and is out for your blood just 'caus
he doesn't happen to like you, that's gettin' personal and professionals,
REAL professionals don't do that.

Lastly, if you think we've given up, Freddy boy, you're wrong.

Ganz is dead, Doom took care of that for us.

Dante'll get his, believe you me, because he made it personal. ]<<<<<
