Subject: ITC makes ruling against Automated Inforworks
Date: Sun, 9 Oct 1994 14:31:52 -0500
>>>>>[Hey folx, I got this out of this week's _Business Week_, Looks like
our friend Leon Meyers managed to cover his ass. I would have given a
report earlier, but we were under orders to not discuss anything regarding
this case until official documents had been released.

+++++ Begin Inclusion
In an uncharacteristic turn of events, the ITC declined to indict Leon
Meyers of the Chicago corporation Automated Inforworks (A.I.) on charges
ranging from unfair business practices to outright criminal fraud. Jeff
Wallace, who presided over the preceed ings cited that the lack of
admissible evidence was key in his decision.

A.I. was founded by reformed corporate criminal Leon Meyers after
completion of his work release probation in May of this year. An expert
in the field of robotics and computer aided design and manufacturing,
Meyers was considered one of the top five in h is field before his
associate involvement with the murder of a Fuchi vice-president and the
kidnapping of Yoshida Technologies head Joseph Yoshida. Further
involvement with the Omega Corporate coup was also hinted at but not fully
substantiated. Because of the lack if fully implicating evidence, Meyers
plea-bargined his way down to one year of supervised work-release, which
was shorted due to good behavior.

A.I. went online in this spring of this year and attracted quite a bit of
investor attention when it announced plans to establish a network-wide
security system that appeared to be capable of reducing the number of
unwanted intrusions through the use of a complex expert system coupled
with powerful intrusion countermeasures. The implementation and overall
goals of this project were questioned, however, when a band of unknown
agents infiltrated the A.I. mainframe and stole several documents. These
papers indicated that A.I. had goals that went far beyond simple security,
and that the expert system included algorithms for encryption bypassing,
and procedures for copying passing information into databases for easy
sorting and access. This included confide ntial information, in violation
of 2039c442.212.

The prosecution for the ITC had a total of six witnesses. Jose' Ramirez,
said to have been part of the band of infiltrators, was dismissed by the
defense under pre-emptory arguments, as was Dragon's Den Inc. president,
Tirandor, who was testifying remote ly from his coorporate headquarters in
the New York harbor. {picture of Tirandor included}. Joseph Yoshida was
dismissed as a hostile witness due to previous dealing with Meyers as was
Yoshida's heir, Norman. The two remaining witnesses, Martha Truson of
Vulcan Robotics (Seattle) and John "Wolf" Thunder of the North America
Network Security Council (NANSec) proved to be ineffective witness, and
were able to operate only in an expert capacity on issues relating to
Meyers' past behavior and issues of sec urity law.

Following cross examination, Judge Wallace dismissed the charges with
stated reluctance. Wallace did include addemdums that A.I. must abandon
its security project due to "probable violations of the Networks Security
Act of '39 (2039c442.212)". Attorneys for A.I. vowed to appeal, but
Meyers stated that he would abide by the judges ruling until the case was
overturned.

A.I. stock has remained steady throughout the trial, and dropped by 3/8
following the rulings.
