This is Charlie Fingers, coming to you from the rapidly degenerating
metroplex of Boston where several more problems have added themselves to the
horror of a mid-air collision earlier today that left 432 people dead and
debris strewn across 5 square kilometers.

Earlier today, at around 3:15 EST, the subway and elevated rail system that
connects all of downtown Boston with the outlying areas of the metroplex failed
simultaneously, causing one rail collision and three derailments. Total
damage is unknown, as is the cause of the system-wide failure. Hospitals and
authorities on the scenes report over 75 dead and perhaps some 300 wounded.
Concrete numbers are not yet available as emergency personnel have yet to
fully clear the debris and rail cars from the areas of the accidents. However,
yet another problem has manifested itself and is adding to the confusion and
terror that Boston has been plunged under today.

Last month the GridLink system failed, causing accidents and delays. Today, at
precisely 3:58 EST, the entire remainder of the traffic control system failed.
Accidents occured almost instantly, and 2/3rds of Boston has been plunged into
total gridlock, stopping emergency units from reaching accidents, fire engines
from reaching numerous small fires that threaten to expand, and police from
being even able to reach points where recovery could be directed from. Only
the limited number of helicoptor, ACV, and Vectored-Thrust units are even able
to move within the city. DocWagon reports all of thier clinics as being filled
over capacity, some by 120%. Local public and private hospitals are even
finding themselves overrun by more injuries than can be cared for.

The Mayor is appealing to all residents of Boston to stay indoors and not to
travel until the situation can be cleared up.

The city has no comment on the status of repairing the traffic and subway
systems, but inside sources say that all of the computers controlling the
systems have failed and are resisting any and all attempts to get them up and
running again.

If this is true, then this situation will not fix itself easily, nor soon.

This is Charlie Fingers, wishing he was somewhere else, signing off from
Boston.]<<<<<
