"Ms Cuellar" is an unperson. She may even be dead by now if she's
working for one of the blacker agencies, but there's a suspicious hole
in the records around her voice print. Tech says it's not a fake, that's
her own larynx: guess she just didn't expect to be taped. Careless,
overconfident, or both. Tech also think they tripped something running
the voiceprint through files, which should let whoever it was know we're
looking in the right places.
The rifle, bleah. Part of a shipment stolen from Ares two years ago when
the CAR-32 was a hot new item on the East Coast. About a hundred
vanished in transit. All legal and above board. No real way to trace it:
we do the same sort of thing all the time.
The Chairman asked me what was going on. I think someone's leant on him,
but then how do you authorise killing your own side's people for doing
their jobs? He's meant to be preventing this kind of shit, and he's been
goofing off. Whoever's behind this should be getting the point that
we're watching for them to make another slip. I told him we had outside
forces attacking my people, and we would take all measures necessary to
stop it. He seemed to get the point.
