We are dealing with a threatening individual who may retain high-level
governmental contacts and who poses a grave risk to the public. If you
wish to order Lynch and I to cease our investigation, then please do so
by official memo over your signature as a matter of record. Otherwise,
accept our help, grin, and suck it up.
We have several leads as to Thunda's activities which we are following,
in the same manner you find so objectionable. We're getting results. We
provided you with our raw data as a matter of courtesy and to minimise
the delay and the risk to the citizenry. Since this perturbs you so
much, perhaps you would prefer the filtered, analysed and processed data
instead? It should be available within fourteen to twenty-one days of
the events in question. We will, if you wish, ensure you only see such
from now on, and you may judge from that whether we are following
procedure.
Exactly what have you achieved while we've been out working? Yet you're
still going to get the collar, as long as we're assisting your
investigation. Change that and we _will_ use that for political
leverage.
Lynch is something of an innocent in these matters: I am not. We want
Thunda taken out, Hakkerstone, and if you want something different you
had better take a few weeks of gardening leave, because otherwise your
FBI career will be over. With this many dead, procedure becomes
irrelevant compared to results, whether we were Agency or FBI.
And I suggest you reconsider your invective and offer my husband an
apology. He at least leaves his office from time to time, and had been
