his mortality. Perhaps refusing healing satisfied self-pity, or
self-immolation, or self-hatred. Or perhaps he wore those scars as his way
of distancing his existance from the reality around him. Perhaps they
provided the same distance from the "human condition" that my eyes and
shades do me.
