>>>>>[Well, we went, we saw, we conquered pretty well. Good thing it was
both of us there, though, they were expecting trouble.

+++++begin trideo
A hotel lobby, one of the larger ones with a coffee bar down one side
and the reception desk at the back: a uniformed clerk sits working at
the terminal behind the main desk, a Troll bellboy stands by the
elevators, and there are several people sitting at the counter of the
coffee bar: talking, reading or eating. The loudest noise is the rain
beating on the windows outside.

The doors swing open and a dark-clad figure hurries in, water streaming
off it's long black leather coat, and several heads turn as it unwraps a
black silk scarf from around its head and face to reveal a pale-skinned
Elven girl of startling, fragile beauty.

"Can I help you, ma'am?" asks the desk clerk.

Easy smiles. "Yes, you can. I'm here to see Colleen? Kor sent me."

You can almost hear the collective intake of breath from the room.

As the group by the coffee bar turn and reach for weapons, the Elven
girl draws an Ingram SuperMach as she races for the reception desk,
firing the machine pistol one-handed at them: the muzzle flash is
enormous - perhaps too large? - and the spray of bullets smashes into
glass and metal, the espresso machine vomiting a cloud of steam. The
"customers" there dive for cover as Easy drops the empty SuperMach and
throws herself over the main desk, smashing into the clerk and both of
them falling out of sight as bullets smash the terminal and scar the
wooden top of the desk

The Troll bellboy is moving forwards, aiming a shotgun, when he staggers
back: you hear a dozen shots or more fired at him, six or seven hits in
his chest and head knocking him to the floor.

The group by the coffee bar, though, are on their feet again and firing
at the desk, riddling it with automatic gunfire and shotgun blasts,
pinning Easy behind it with no way to escape.

As the shooting slows - two men changing magazines, then a third - three
things happen in rapid sequence.

The bellhop's severed head flies over the desk to land among them, its
bloodied face still frozen in a rictus of fear.

A male figure skids through the doors, firing as he moves at the
shooters by the coffee bar, hitting at least two before they can react
to this new threat.

And the head explodes, the concussion grenade Easy jammed in its mouth
detonating with a mind-shaking shockwave.

As the three survivors stagger back, clutching their bleeding ears, they
are cut down by the lethal crossfire of Easy and Griffyn: who waste no
words, but check the fallen as they move to cover the elevators.

"Smart or dumb?" asks Easy tersely.

"Take no chances." replies Gryffin.

Easy shrugs. "I'll shoot, you cover." Gryff has time to nod before a
chime announces the arrival of the elevator: Easy fires nearly twenty
shots through its doors as they open... revealing an empty cage.

She darts into it, the empty magazines for her Berettas clattering on
the floor, as Griff fires into the doors of the emergency stairwell and
is rewarded with a scream: he moves into better cover as bullets smash
back into the lobby, missing him by inches. Easy aims at the door, and
as it opens the first woman to look out peers the wrong way, looking for
Griffyn: a mistake the Elven girl causes to be fatal.

Easy says something soft, and Griffyn nods: as the Elf begins a steady
fire into the emergency door, her partner grabs two of the downed enemy
and hauls them to and through the entrance.

Returning to cover Easy's retreat, he slows, then says in an urgent
whisper that the camera just catches "LOOK UP!"

The Elf does so, and you see her sudden expression of alarm: she raises
both pistols and blasts off a brief fusillade into the elevator's
ceiling, rewarded with a scream: Easy runs for the lobby, firing one
Beretta empty into the stairwell door as she passes it, the equally
blind return fire blasting chunks out of the plascrete.

Griffyn has apparently left Easy to get out by herself, until you hear
the sounds of his gunfire: he's engaging someone or something in the
street, and the Elven girl passes him at a flat run.
+++++end trideo

I'd offer my own recording, but the camera and the Kevlar stopped a .401
Super meant for me.

They had backup fairly close, and we had to shoot our way past them too.
Griff got us out of there, complete with three - count'em, three -
prisoners. I admit, while I could have made it clear alone, no way could
we have brought those out if it wasn't for him.

Amazingly, Griffyn doesn't seem hurt at all. I'll be okay in a few days
(impact trauma, nothing too bad: so I'm on prisoner guard while he sees
what else he can find). And we have two of the crew who reacted so
strongly and violently to the idea of someone sent by Kor to find
Colleen. #3: The phone moved to a different ho'tel about 3 hours before
the hit on that hotel: Merrox dug the footage out while he was chasing
that fact down. Still in Miami.

I'd suggest that we sprang one trap and got away with it: twice, against
an alerted enemy who know what to look for, might not be a good idea.

Suggestions? I could interrogate them myself, but my technique isn't
exactly subtle, and I'm less sure of its effectiveness than I used to
be.]<<<<<
