Easy is walking across her waterlogged fields, bootheels squelching in
the soaked ashy soil, towards a group gathered around a crate of
equipment.

"Well?" she asks sharply.

"Not a chance." One of the group, an Ork in coveralls, straightens.
"Complex heavy metal contamination. Nicely chelated, it's tied into the
soil. Won't leach into the groundwater, won't drift much. But anything
you grow here will soak up a couple of parts per million of thallium.
You couldn't even sell that for biodiesel."

"Can we clean it up?"

"Sure." The Ork shrugs sadly. "For maybe fifty million dollars a
hectare. Cheaper to bulldoze the top metre of soil and dump it at sea,
and lay new topsoil."

"Can't afford either." Easy sighs. "So. The land's screwed?"

"Hell, no, it's fine. You could zone it for residential, or especially
industrial. Have to sell it cheap because of the thallium, of course,
but it's usable. Just can't farm it."

Easy nods slowly. "How fucking convenient. Thanks. See Vincenzo, give
him your full report."

She turns to face Mani and Sherak. "We're not out of the woods yet.
Going to be a hell of a lot more fighting before we're done."

"What would you have us do?" Mani asks.

Easy ponders for a moment. "If I'm not mistaken, we'll get a visitor in
the next day or three. That should give us more idea what we're up
against."

This is what I want for now. Surveillance on Heihachi, and the fullest
listing of his assets we can manage. Current location on the Chun Paks
and Bartolo, updated every time they move. And a check on the land
registry to see who's been enquiring about my territory.

Can we do that?]<<<<<
