A table in a small room. To the right, Canis is sitting, staring
concentratedly on a disassembled sniper rifle, cleaning it. Opposit of
him, Fohdytoo does the same to an Ares Alpha, although much faster.

Suddenly, the outlines of a female can be seen appearing between them.
Both notice it, but do not react alerted, although the beatiful woman
came out of thin air. The woman adresses Canis: "Master... I've been
wondering..."

Canis drops the spring he has just been working on as he looks up.
"What?" he asks as he picks up the fugitive part of machinery.

"You all seem worry-sorrow-pity about this Aaron-Draper-Soldier. But
you have not even seen him in reality. And you was hunting
Aaron-Draper-Soldier just a few light-phases before. Why is that?"

Okami gets the attention of both men with this outburst. They stare at
her, then at each other. Fohdytoo starts to answer, but seems to be
lacking words, as he closes his mouth again. Canis grins, but then his
face becomes more serious, and finally frowns. It is scary that his
all-black cybereyes do not show any emotions at all.

"Well, " he answers after a while, "I suppose that is difficult to
answer. See, how we see Draper has changed, "

Okami interrupts: "But, Master, Aaron-Draper-Soldier cannot have
changed greatly in this few light-phases, can he?"

"Fohdytoo picks up: "No, probably not. But how we see things changes by
the intel we receive, " Okami interrupts again, "So Things-That-Are are
only right as long as you do not learn new Things-That-Are?"

This leaves both men puzzled. "We can only act on what we know," Canis
states after a while. "But what we know, what we see, is not always the
whole truth. There are things we do not know, or things that may
change, or even things we assume might be possible, but can't trust..."
his voice trails off.

"So you humans always have to guess if you are doing right? From what
you know, Invae could even be good, and you just don't know the right
Things-That-Are to know?"

"Err..." states Fohdytoo wisely.

"And what did you learn about Aaron-Draper-Soldier that made you wish
to help-support-comfort him? You have not seen him. You have not felt
him, his Aura is unknown to you. Why do you trust him to be untouched
by invae?" Okami continues after a pause.

Fohdytoo thinks about this, while re-assembling the Alpha. Canis
answers, after another pause. "We are not sure about Draper. But there
are other people then us who we know of to search for bug spirits also,
you know. Like the people we worked with after we left the zone, you
remember?

"Like these, the MP - the military police who captured Draper - will
try to find out if Draper was influenced. And they took him into jail
where we can not go anyways, so we settle on trusting their work."

"...and you do hope these Em-Pees are not invae." Fohdytoo and Canis
exchange uncomfortable glances. "And you do hope you will not detect
the Em-Pees were not just pretending to be what they were." With a loud
CLICK Fohdytoo tests the action of the Alpha, exchanging another glance
with Canis. "But what is strange you are now not at peace, but still
worry-sorrow-pity for Aaron-Draper-Soldier. Why is that?"

"See, Okami, this is..." Fohdytoo starts, then pauses. After a moment,
he continues, "Draper was trapped in a horrible situation. He had to
follow orders, as he was a soldier... " - "Like I have to follow orders
from my Master," Okami throws in, looking at Canis. "Yeah, right. But
he did not like these orders much, as he saw how his friends were
killed, and he had to shoot at people he could not see as threat. This
must have been hard for him. We can understand why he ran: It is
sometimes just too much to stand.

"So he ran. Now he will go to jail, and we don't like that idea."

"Ah, finally I understand. You understand him, and that means what he
did was not really wrong?"

Both Canis and Fohdytoo sit there, mouths open. "Well, no," Canis
finally manages to say.
